9 Days After Surgery And No Desire To Eat

Recommended Posts

So, this is pretty straight forward. I'm having trouble eating anything. It seems like what I tolerate includes nothing that has any significant amount of Protein in it. I've tried both the pre-surgery shakes and the clear Protein drinks, as well as adding in unflavored Protein to drinks, you name it, I'm trying it. The only thing I've been able to eat and not just want to vomit is sugar free hot chocolate with unflavored Protein powder, but I'm afraid of drinking seven cups of that a day because then I'll be sick of that, too. It's the texture and taste of the Protein Powder and the fact that drinking the clear protein drinks results in those little... strandy things that just make me nauseated.

Has anyone else been in this position? I'm doing what I can (totally med/vitamin compliant) but the protein is just... not happening. Any help from those who've been here done that would be appreciated :)

Iwas just about to start a topic about this very thing!

I am 3 weeks out and I am having a terrible time trying to eat. I can drink hot tea, - great. Crystal Light drinks - too sweet. Plain Water - Blah. Protein drinks, too sweet, too thick. Soup is okay, string cheese is okay, hardboiled eggs are okay, chicken salad okay.

But no matter what I eat, it makes me feel terrible. I get this feeling in my esophagus immediately after the first bite that turns me off. It is so uncmfortable, food feels like it just sits there, even after one bite. Several times I have slimed, in a valiant effort to not throw up. Also must be experiencing "dumping" because I've had some emergency trips to the bathroom to catch the other end before it's too late. Nothing I eat tastes good. Drinking is much easier.

So what's wrong with me - I dread having to eat solid food.... >:-\

Don't worry about the Protein just stay hydrated. The protein willl come over time. I lived off watermelon, oranges, and Water for three weeks after surgery. My NUT allowed it because nothing else would stay down. Call your NUT and ask for suggestions.

I felt the same way the first few weeks, food was repulsive to me. I did OK with Bariatric Advantage shakes, yogurt, applesauce and eggs. Everything felt like it got stuck in my throat. Hang in there, it wull get better!

Propel makes a flavored water that is zero. The grape is my favorite but berry isn't bad either. I haven't tried those Protein Drinks yet. Where do you normally get them from, online?

I am having the same problem, the only thing I eat is Fage 0% yogurt with frozen strawberries. I am glad to see the post about Watermelon, that I did try and it stayed down. I will be call my NUT as well. Not to sound mean, because you do not want to see ANYONE have a hard time, but in a sense it does make me feel somewhat normal! I just want to skip this stage and go onto eggs or sweet potatoes..something! LOL

Wishing all my October Sleevers much more success to come

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
