Hip Joint Pain And Exercise

Recommended Posts

I want to start a regular exercise routine to help me lose weight quicker. I have had 2 lower back surgeries (herniated disks) so there is some range movement limitation but not too bad. I have arthritis in both hips so it really hurts to walk; every step I take hurts. Christmas shopping to me equates to "oh no, my hips are going to hurt!". One of the main reasons I wanted to be sleeved was to lose weight, resulting in less weight on my joints and beating the pain! I don't have access to a pool. Does anyone else have this situation and does anyone have an exercise suggestion?

I used to have a severe problem with my hips, I use the Gazelle. It's not an elliptical but it's even easier on my joints. I can walk now, and I can even do a little jogging, but there was a time I couldn't walk 1/2 block or get up my stairs.

It would be best if you could try it out first.

There are two styles, the freestyle and the edge. The freestyle is $199.00 and The Edge is $99.00. Freestyle allows for a higher weight which I used to have and now I have the edge (my freestyle broke) I was using it when i was over 300 pounds.

If you look at your weekly paper for garage sales or Craig's list you can usually find them $15.00 - $20.00.

Hi

Have you had your sleeve yet?

Losing a hunderd pound have made the world of difference in my hip and upper thigh pain I have had for years.I use to say my next surgery would be a hip replacement before plastics.

My surgeon did a quick xray to just see if the hip space and Fluid was still ok and well,it was fine.

About 4 months and 70 pounds later, I dont have to take pain meds for it anymore and exercise is an absolute pleasure.

I am not sure how much better your arthritis in the hips will be but the dr's are always telling the patients to lose weight when the have arthritis, right? So it ahould improve your pain issues quite a bit I believe.

Everything is easier after weight loss and you should see a significant aprovement.

Good luck on you journey!

Thanks so much for responding, the advise and encouragement. I have about 75 lbs to lose to get toy high weight goal--I really am excited about the prospect of less pain after the loss!! Yes, I had the sleeve done on Oct 2 so I'm going on my 4th week. I've lost 15 lbs so far-slow but steady so far, and that's ok by me. I'm going to see if I can find a Gazelle - that seems like an ideal solutions!! Thanks so much!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
