Hernia

So. I found out today during my EGD that I have a hiatal hernia (small). Has anyone else had one, and did it have any effect on your surgery?

I believe they will fix it while they're doing the vsg, at least my Dr. does.

My gastro said the same thing.

I found out the same thing after my Endoscopy. He wasn't concerned.

They found that I had one during surgery and fixed it. Probably the reason I had such terrible acid reflux for years. None since surgery BONUS!

I've heard most surgeons fix that problem during your surgery. Nice huh :-)

It shouldn't cause you any issues, just don't try to lift anything or strain yourself for several weeks.

Yeah, had one of those that is till I had my sleeve and it was repaired by my Dr.

That is what Im hoping fir, no reflux after surgery!!

I had a moderate hernia which was causing moderate to severe heartburn.

My dr repaired it durring VSG.

I took Omneprezrole for 3 months post op and quit. I have not had a SINGLE instance of heartburn since.

That alone was worth the surgery!! :)

Roughly 1/2 of all WLS patients have hiatal hernias
