What to tell my family????

Recommended Posts

I need some advice. I plan to be banded this month. I should find out today (hopefully) the actual date. I am going to Mexico and my sister is going with me. I don't want my family to know. I have family that doesn't understand weight issues. We are all big, but they think I should just go on a diet. My problem is what do I tell them when they find out we are going somewhere? We live close by, so it isn't like they won't know we are gone. We often get together and play cards, etc. I don't want to hear what they have to say about me having the surgery, and I REALLY don't want to hear what they say about going to Mexico. I am not going to defend my actions. I am smart enough to have done research and am confident in the doctor that I chose.

Thank you for any advice you all have.

just tell them u and ur sister are doing a sisters get away weekend, you can even tell them its in mexico...and then as for the weight loss later on, just tell them that your exercising and making better eating choices, which will all be true... good luck!

I'm with Heather. If they're not going to be supportive, you can always tell them later but you can't un-tell them. You're doing the right thing and you know you are, so just tell them you're going on a mini-vacation with your sister then worry about what to tell them later when they notice your weight loss. You're going to do great!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
