Mine are 400$ round trip Burlington (Vermont) to San Diego. That's booked directly with United, and booking Economy Plus on the flight home. I checked the prices on Farecompare.com first and then usually book directly with the airlines. My parents had some really bad experience when they booked through Expedia once, one of their flights got cancelled and they got stuck at Newark airport, and Expedia would not help them, and the airline would not either because they hadn't booked directly through the airline. Anyways, for my flights I connect in Newark on the way there, and Chicago on the way home.

If I had the choice I'd book Virgin America because they're just a lovely airline, but they're not convenient for a San Diego flight.

How far in advance did everyone book them? I'm having surgery in March, so would it be best to wait a couple of months until I booked them? Or the sooner the better?

I went based on things I have read such as the best time to purchase tickets are on Tuesday at 3pm Eastern time and around 42 days in advance, so I actually purchased my tickets on 9/25. Originally I was going to fly out on 11/6 but changed it to flying out on 11/3. I was tracking them for over a month and when I booked that was the cheapest I had seen them.

Good Luck! :)

I booked my tickets 3 weeks out. I decided to have surgery and I wanted it NOW, so 3 weeks out was the soonest that had affordable tickets. I wish I could have booked it for last week because it would all be over and behind me now but the price was about 3 times more :) Normally I book about 2 months out for regular tickets. And I try to travel on tuesdays and wednesdays because those seem to be the cheapest days, sundays too.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
