Help Me Understand ... Why The Stigma?

Recommended Posts

I only told a few close friends and family -- but that said, I don't tell personal information of any kind about myself, for the most part -- mostly for career reasons and a small town. I absolutely couldn't care less what people think and they can gossip behind my back all they want. What others think of me is none of my business. I just don't care to discuss it with them. And I also couldn't care less about 'taking the easy way out' -- so the eff what?? How many areas in life do we deliberately do something 'the hard way'?? Makes ZERO sense, and is anyhow based on this very judgey perspective that fat people have sinned against aesthetics (mostly fat women) and deserve to be punished and work very hard to gain back the right to be counted amongst the human beings again. Yeah, no thanks LOL. And finally, maybe talking about it is awesome and reduces stigma and all that, but it's not my responsibility to change what anyone thinks, especially if they're being judgey and negative. That's on them and I'm not fussed at all about it. They're welcome to their opinion and they're even welcome to share it with me, but I don't have to care about it and I for sure don't have to try and convince them otherwise. Which is anyhow notoriously ineffective... :D

It's a shame how people treat obesity yet there are 'rehab centers' etc. for under-eating, bulimia! I truly believe obese people also suffer from body dysmorphic disease yet no one addresses this psych. factor of weight gain! They think and say, "move more, eat less!" (duh!) But do they say to anorexics "move less, eat more and you'll be fine!" of course not. Our society and culture's obsession with physical beauty is to blame! Anorexics can hide their skeletal frames under clothing, hair and makeup! Obese people can't hide-they do so by avoiding social interactions where they feel judged and less than everyone else. Don't get me started on drug addicts-in snd out of rehab -mostly on taxpayers dime, they can't work (or won't!), free housing, etc. our culture is warped! In the 60's women burned their bras as a symbol of freedom from male oppression and to be proud of our "natural" bodies! -FF to the 2000's and women must have huge breasts to feel beautiful, so they have augmentation! Why hasnt Gloria Stineham addressed this flip-flop of women's lib! Sorry for the rant! I feel better now! Peace!

I told everyone, cause I am not a very private person and I know I would eventually spill the Beans. Well, not everyone. I didn't tell my in-laws. Just because I know my MIL would not stop bugging her son about it.

I noticed people at work immediately analyzing everything I ate after that. "Maybe if you didn't eat this or that.... "

Piss off, I say. I did notice that I only got negative reactions from the girls whom are a little chunky. (Not heavy enough for WLS). Not one negative comment from any of my thin coworkers. I found that very curious. A little sad, I must admit.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
