How long should I plan on taking off of work? Oh yeah.. how long was the hospital stay also??

The sleeve is usually an outpatient surgery, however the doctor may order you to stay overnight, I have even known of some people on this board who stay 2 nights. I personally stayed overnight. I got sleeved on Oct 3rd, and I am feeling a lot better, just not ready for work yet, I suppose 2 - 3 weeks would be appropriate time to take off.

My company requires you take 1 week of vacation prior to short term disability kicking in. So I was approved for the one week of vacation plus 3 additional weeks on short-term, however I'm feeling good and will go back after 3 weeks total.

Depends on your surgeon and country standards, i guess. Here in the north east usual stay is 2 nights. IMy surgeon would have let me go next day, but I opted to stay (kids at home). Good thing, i felt like doodoo on day 2. When the pay saw I felt she offered. Third night, but i decided to go home. Also depends on your insurance. I have not heard of any US hospitals doing it as outpatient. Where are you? My sugeon released me to go back to work in 12 days if I feel up to it. Given how I feel better daily, i think that is more than reasonable. Again it isup to the imdividual and their surgeon

I am an ER nurse so I have taken 4 weeks! I think it all depends on what your job duties entail.

It definitely depends on your job as the weight you can lift will be limited for a while. My doctor said not more than 15 pounds for the first four weeks. Check with your doctor on this. I am retired but would have been ready for work after one week.

Outpatient!? That seems rather.... unsafe! They should be monitoring you, and have IV painkillers. They should be in and out of your room all night changing your IV fluids and taking your vitals. I don't think I would want to go to a hospital where it is only an outpatient procedure. Anyway, in terms of work, I work in a hospital as a phlebotomist so I took 4 weeks or so. Like people have said, alot of it depends on your job. If you have a desk job you may find it easier to go back after two weeks because you are not doing a lot of standing, walking or lifting. But because my job is all about the standing, walking and lifting I took the month. Plus you need to remember that you will still have open wounds. Working in a hospital with open wounds can be dangerous because of the increase risk of infection. Good luck!

I totally agree, however my insurance only approved me for outpatient, the loophole is to have the doctor order overnight, after the surgery in order to have my insurance cover it. So yes it is considered an outpatient surgery to some insurance plans.

I was in the hospital for 2 nights which is standard for my surgeon and I am out of work for 4 weeks which works for me bc I have had a few complications. The 4 weeks was approved for fmla and short term. I have a desk job.

I had surgery 10/1 and going back on the 16th. The 15th is a local holiday. I honestly feel like I could go back this week. My hospital stay was 2 days and I needed it. The day after surgery I really was feeling bad.

I had surgery on July 24' and because I was from out of town my surgeon preferred to keep me two nights. I have a somewhat sedentary job so I returned 8 days after surgery. I probably would have gone back six days after surgery but had to head back to my local hospital four days after surgery for dehydration. I was tired for the first few days back at work but just took a power nap when I got home. If my job were more physically demanding I would definitely have taken off a few more days.

I have a desk job and took 1 week off. The main concern with the desk job is to not sit to long, it increases the risk of blood clots. I was very tired when I returned and wished I could have worked 1/2 days, but I couldn't afford to because I didn't have any more paid time off.
