  1. mrtiger1 I am definitely not an expert on this, but I do try to exercise regularly, even if it is to get out and walk. I'm only down 50 pounds thus far (3 months out) and have quite a bit more to go. I believe that not only does the exercise increase your metabolism, it is also helping somewhat tighten up the bagging/sagging skin. I'm not sure your age, but for those of us over 50, the skin just isn't as elastic as it once was, and any help I can get on tightening up skin/muscles, I will definitely take it! Good luck!

    How Long Did It?

I also spent two night in the hospital, which I was actually glad, as I also had nausea issues and had difficulty keeping liquids down. I returned to work a week after my surgery, and was probably back to relatively normal in about two to three weeks.Like others, I also had the glue in place of staples or sutures. Walking wasn't a big problem, just got tired easy for the first week or two. Took a few cat naps after work for a week or so. I am almost three months out, down 50 pounds, and feeling better than I have in years. I have no reservations about deciding to have the surgery. As my "name" says, I feel I truly have a bright future now. My Surgeon didn't give me alot of restrictions after surgery, other than what I could tolerate. I did notice one day that I overdid bending and stooping, and was sore for a day or so afterwards. I wish you a great surgery and fast recovery!

How Long To Take Off Work?

I had surgery on July 24' and because I was from out of town my surgeon preferred to keep me two nights. I have a somewhat sedentary job so I returned 8 days after surgery. I probably would have gone back six days after surgery but had to head back to my local hospital four days after surgery for dehydration. I was tired for the first few days back at work but just took a power nap when I got home. If my job were more physically demanding I would definitely have taken off a few more days.

    Questions About Post-Op Flight Home

I had a two hour flight four days after my surgery. I carried a neck pillow that I used to cushion my stomach and also bought a seat belt extender, which was a great idea I found on this website. I kept moving my legs and feet during the flight. I was worried about the flight back but everything went really well - just took it a bit slower than I normally would

    July 2012 Sleevers? Please Share!

Hi Jnfrbnvds, I was also sleeved on July 24th. So far 41 pounds down, and really happy about that. My incisions are pretty well all healed, but I have always been a really fast healer. I too am also very happy I had the procedure. I can't eat much food, and focus on eating the Protein first, which usually fills me up. I have to confess that I do have an OJ smoothie in the morning, which I add one scoop of Protein powder, to help get all my protein. I use the 50% less sugar OJ. My big issue I still struggle with is getting all my liquids. Getting sleeved was truly the best thing I have ever done for myself!

    Diet Coke Junkies

Diet Coke/Diet Pepsi - this was the hardest of all! I quit cold turkey, and went through the caffeine withdrawls (headaches). It is the only thing I still crave - almost two months after my surgery. Having gone through the surgery, recovery, etc., I absolutely don't want to do any harm or reversal (stretching the stomach), so I guess I will concede that soda and carbonation will never be on my menu again Definitely one of those things I should have appreciated more when I could drink it!
  9. Wow, where do I start: 1) Having difficulty putting on my socks every day. 2) Trying to bend over to cut my toe nails 3) Being afraid that the chair I was sitting in would break 4) Not being able to fit in any of the stadium seating 5) An the final last straw - flying in a plane and the seat belt didn't fit and getting humiliated by the flight attendant in front of my family, sister, niece, and almost every passenger on the plane when she basically yelled at me and did so in a voice loud enough that pretty much everyone on the plane was aware.

    How And When Did You...

Welcome I am relatively new to the site, in spite of the fact that I was sleeved in the end of July. I was so nervous of what my family and friends would think of me, and didn't want to be the one that people pointed at because I couldn't lose the weight on my own. On the other side, I also didn't want to continue to be the fat person that I had become either! When I finally told my family (some actually after the surgery) I was truly amazed how supportive everyone has been. I have also told close friends, and they are equally supportive. I think you will find that once you tell the first person it gets easier to tell others. I get a bit misty because my husband and two kids are my biggest cheerleaders now, and frequently tell me how proud they are that I did this. I wish you much luck and success in your journey.

To Sleeve Or Not To Sleeve

I totally agree with the advice given above. I was also a yo-yo person, being heavy as a child, losing it, gaining some with pregnancy, and then gaining even more. I only wish I had been aware of this procedure years ago. My 2 children are now grown, but had I had the sleeve done when they were younger, I could have participated in so much more of their lives, rather than sitting and watching because I was heavy. I too worried excessively about the complications, and talked extensively with my doctor, reviewed all procedures and mortality rates. I hope you make the right decision for you, and I wish you much success in whatever you decide to do.
  12. The best of luck on your surgery. My flight was only 2 hours, but the neck pillows they sell in the airport shops work wonders to cushion your stomach. I had very loose workout pants, and was not at all uncomfortable, but I do wish I would have had some loose dresses to wear. I hope all goes well for you!

How Far Do You Have To Travel?

I am 2 hour away by plane. Bariatric Surgery isn't as "popular" where I live, so decided to have it done where these surgeries are done all the time, and I am very glad I did. I was a little worried about the flight back after surgery, but all went well, kept my legs moving, and stood when I could.
