I face a friend who had surgery a week ago yesterday. Well she was eating marshmellows and went to a tasting party. I did say to her, you should have done that, you're just beginning this journey, its a mind set as well as physical. Her response was I don't see the bug deal, if I hold my food in my mouth for 10-15 min. I was in Away! You told me she was going to golden coral this weekend for a family gathering. I don't think she's on a good start, but she gets upset if I say anything, but the reason why is that I think of my co-worker who had a repeat gastric surgery 10 years post gastric bypass, she wasn't lucky, she was just placed in a nursing home, they can't control the leaks, which caused liver failure, she's blind and her mind is gone. Shes only 36 and has been on life support several times, this has been her status since Nov. 2011, the time of her second surgery. She needs a liver transplant but she's too weak to sick to get it, she probly wouldn't survive surgery, per her husband. They have two kids. So lets all put our best foot forward fir success and nit decrease!

That sounds incredibly scary what has happened to you coworker. You are doing all the right things by being the voice of rationale and reasoning for your friend. It really shows you care for her well being. Going to buffets is only asking for trouble, not only in terms of progress, but it can be downright dangerous if overheating too soon. This is not a medical fact, but is my opinion. I hope you are able to reason with your friend and that she will listen.

It's amazing your friend passed the psych evaluation. Sounds like she never pid mind to her surgeon or her Nut either (assuming she had these important services). I wish you and your friend strength and wisdom to get her through this.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
