I plan on tipping the drivers and such, what amount is customary in your opinion? Do I tip everytime I'm Picked up and dropped off? Or when someone takes me into town? How much extra cash would you bring?

I am here in TJ with my mom right now.. my coordinator Trish told my mom $2 is plenty to tip hotel people or restaurants. I tipped the driver $5 when he dropped me off at the hospital but he I felt he deserved it and he was extremely helpful!!

My surgery was with Dr. Kelly, and his assistant, Omar, took care of all of my and my partners needs. I believe we tipped him $100. We also tipped our cleaning lady $60 for the four days of our hotel stay. She went out of her way to make us comfortable.

Yes that is a very wide distance in tipping. I'm starting to think

Of all these off the wall questions, maybe I'll just email janese.

I am not sure of the tipping I was just going to bring smaller US bills and tip as I would here in the states. I also have been reading that you should just keep US cash and not get it converted. :)

i was wondering the same thing about tipping! i think the $2 each time i'm picked up/dropped off is a fair amount. the maid... since i'll be there for 5 days i'm thinking $20 but i really judge by the kind of service... if it's crappy they'll get less but if it's outstanding i'm willing to pay more.

I tipped my hotel driver who took me to and from the clinic at the end - I gave him $10 US. I also tipped the driver who drove me across the border - both times $10 US (total $20). I tipped my maid servie $10 for 3 nights stay. I stayed at Marriott and tipped $1 US each time I was brought broth/popsicle/jello

I think that some coordinators go above and beyond (I've heard the amazing stories about Omar) - and more would be justified.

When I was sleeved some other patients brought the clinic nurses flowers - I wish I had thought of something like that!

tipped the driver from the clinic who picked me up at airport and took back - $30 as he got us back through border quickly. didn't tip the driver who took back and forth from clinic/hotel as it was hotel van. (note: when I checked out on first day and had luggage to the clinic, I did tip, but that was because of the luggage). Ate at hotel, had the free broth, tipped a buck each time....

did not tip the hotel cleaner as they did not EVER bring the Water like supposed to....and came very very late in the day (early evening) to clean room (the Marriott)

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
