I was able to use a straw at 1 month post op. It really has to do with air getting in our tummies, but I get more air just drinking out of a glass, I never realized that until after surgery.

I now try to drink without breathing in at the same time if that makes sense.

I was using one ounce cup from the hospital. It was so terrible for me to use them. Now I use a straw to drink my Water. I am 16 days post-op. I am having no troubles with the straws. I was told no straws ever.

The giant cup of Water they gave me in the hospital, it had a straw. I had to drink said cup of Water with a straw, before I was released. I have literally been using a straw since day one. The water bottle I use daily has a straw in it. I don't have issues using one or not using one. For some people liquid goes down easier with one, for others, it's a hindrance. I honestly think this is one of those personal preference things and not a hard and fast rule that will make or break your progress. I've steadily lost weight, and my surgery was at a bariatric center of excellence, so I must be doing something correctly.

When I was not getting enough Water because I cannot stand drinking out of a cup I started using a straw... I am 8 weeks post op and I use a straw everyday... And I will continue to use one.

lol i think i'll be hitting up my local dollar store for a bag of straws! i have been practicing today and YUP...as i said...way less air going down with a straw. i also noticed a few weeks ago that i am a HUGE gulper and the straw FORCES me to sip, sip, sip. so i think it's def better for me.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
