How Long After Surgery Did You Wait To Have Sex?

Recommended Posts

Really? Come on....

Yes really and there's no shame in it. Some people just have very active sex lives and after 17 years of marriage I am thrilled it's still there for us.

It is one thing to have healthy, active sex life. It is another to claim that after having 85 percent of your stomach removed and stapled - with a catheter and drugs like the ones given to you that you even pondered sex in the hospital.

Ok for starters everyone reacts differently to all sorts of things. I did not have catheter, I did not have drain, I didn't even have any pain. I had to check my tummy for the incisions before I would believe I even had surgery. Oh wait let's make this interesting though. I pondered all that after having teeth pulled and bone grafts and bone scraping done and mouth of stitches. Why?? Well cause I wasn't in pain and my husband gave me that handsome look and guess what it aroused me and I wanted him. Because it was a hospital meant that I would have to wait til I was home.

Please don't judge people on experiences when we all experience different effects from surgery. I understand people assume pain from surgeries but I have had over 10 and have never experienced much if any pain to any of them, except my hysterectomy. And let me edit here. I did have mouth pain from the grafting but not from my surgery.

You would really question someone on their post?? Who cares if the chick had sex right out of surgery! Some people want it and some people don't. She was replying to the question that someone asked. If you don't believe it then move on to the next question, why start a "I don't think your telling the truth thing". ...Good Luck to ya.

8 days for me and no soreness or issues at all. Hadn't seen hubby in 3 weeks though so as soon as he arrived back home from overseas, he pounced :)

Wow judge much? and "claim" what do you mean by that, for what reason would she lie? Some people have very high drive and some are not extremely sensitive to pain.. I can attest to both. I had 3 different c- sections where I ws sliced from one side of my abdomen to the other and guess what I still wanted sex only a couple days laterI was still in the hospital and that was open surgery. I am the type of person that doctors get mad at for doing too much I have had 5 surgeries and every time I am ready to get my Fat Arse up and walk before being asked and if I have a stupid catheter I make them remove it immediately... So again I can see how someone who has had many surgeries before and is not feeling a lot of pain would want to have sex and I say more power to her.I hope to be in a similar situation when I have my surgery done :)

We tried it at two weeks post op, I was a bit sore. Three weeks post op, it was much better:). But again, we all do have different pain tolerances, so it's up to you and how your body feels.

First of all, to be clear, I was not implying that the stormwarning was lying. I used the word "claim" as that is precisely what she did.

Unfortunately, text is sometimes misconstrued. Before anyone else decides to chime in that I was being judgmental, let me say that is not the case. I am however in complete disagreement that it is acceptable to have intercourse a day or two after a major surgery such as this. Regardless of how you tolerate pain, or how healthy your sex drive is, IN MY OPINION you are putting yourself in harms way for pleasure.

Would you leave the hospital and stop on the way home and ride a roller coaster? Get on your hands and knees and scrub the floor? Load a truck with boxes? No. Even though you might want to do these things, you don't because you know, aside from how you may feel that it could hurt you.

I find it mildly humorous that there is a thread several pages long with numerous people bashing someone that took a drink of diet coke a short while after surgery, but I am blasted for disagreeing that it is acceptable to have sex while in the hospital or the day after.

I don't want to be a killjoy or stand here waggling my finger at anyone, so let me just say that physiologically, our stomachs do contract (sometimes quite strongly) during orgasm. That could potentially increase the risk of complications before we're healed.

Now, you said "sex" and not "orgasm" and they aren't necessarily the same thing so...

I waited my surgeon's clearance time of 2 weeks, IIRC. I've been married 15 years, and wasn't a virgin then. 2 weeks didn't kill me. :)

My last comment in this thread;

The physical stress of sex after surgery may rupture sutures or tear incions: If your doctor clears you for physical activity, you are also likely safe for sexual activity. In my house anyway, sex is very physical and quite strenuous. If it is not in yours, it is worth waiting on anyway. Hehe ;)

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
