Spoiler Alert: If you're set off by hearing about food that's hard to eat now- don't read on!!!

Well since I've known I was supposed to lose 14 lbs. and have basically put it off and now only have 30 days to do it--- I don't know how "last dinnerish" I can go.

My craving: I really want the BEST steak and a baked potato w. sour cream and butter....and hard sourdough roll/bread.

But my fear is ...the steak won't be perfect and I will have wasted the calories.

My other fear: Does even thinking this way mean I'm not ready for the surgery?

I do have every good shake and powder and liquid ready to go for pre and post op. It's just...what I want (and how far has that gotten me??).

I think it's okay to have a small indulgence before you hit your pre-op as long as it's in moderation. If you go with a high fat appetizer, meal, dessert, drink ... well personally I couldn't bring myself to go all out and have a full last meal (I ended up having a few bites of a Whopper the day before pre-op liquids, but tossed it), but I don't know that it hurts your chances for surgery drastically.

I think it's important to remember, and this is what kept me from cheating during the liquid phase, is that my liver had to be small enough for the surgery and I sure didn't want to have a moment I looked back on with regret if they told me I couldn't do it because my liver hadn't shrunk enough.

Can anyone tell me about their different pre-op diets? I hear different ones, 1-3 week of shakes with a Protein and salad then 2-3 days of Clear Liquids. I'm wondering. My surgical directions said 7-14 day Protein Shakes and 3 day clears.

My surgeon never gave me a pre-op diet, just directions to lower the carbs, go high Protein, and try to lose 10-15 pounds before surgery. He said the most important thing is to shrink the liver to allow better access to the stomach and reduce chances of complications. It's also a chance to practice what you'll have to do more stringently after surgery, so that you don't go into emotional shock in the first two phases after surgery (liquids and full liquids). So I just dieted like normal with salads, veggies, no soda, cut out sugary stuff, ate lots of chicken, tried out a few Protein Shakes. But I still made time to have some of my favorites, just in very small bites. Then of course, clears 24 hours before surgery for anesthesia reasons.

I went on a month long last supper and ate at all the fancy restaurants in town before my surgery. I'm glad I did, because after that month of gluttony, I didn't want another 5 star 10 course meal again.

Different doctors have different diets but they all have the same goal -- shrink your liver so that the surgery is easier. My diet was similar to yours. I would recommend following your doctor's instructions and not worry about what others are doing.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
