Hello.

Wondering about the "band to sleeve"... Anyone that might have had reflux or heartburn prior to banding and then without... how's the sleeve working in that area?

Hi

I had reflux with the band when filled even a little.

Now I am on Nexium and only had slight heartburn twice.I will try and reduce the Nexium at about 5 months out so that I can stop as soon as possible.

But I feel great and have lost 55 pounds where as with the band I was sick and miserable for a long long time.

xxo

Thanks for writing me back... Sorry to hear that you are dealing with the heartburn/reflux... During the lap band surgery my doctor repaired the hiatal hernia and I had absolutely no heartburn whatsoever, until a few months back when I had that horrible experience of a partial obstruction... and ever since then, I've had a few problems, even with most of the Fluid removed... Soooooooo... I am looking forward to hearing from my Ins regarding the sleeve... I believe this is the way I want to go...

Thanks for sharing...

Connie

Connie,

Comparing to the time with the band the sleeve is wonderful for me.It took me 3 months to adapt to eating very tiny, very tasty portions of food.I am satisfied and happy.I feel better when I eat very very little.

And I have lost 55 pounds even without doing regular exercise (play squash once or twice a week)With the band I had to diet and exercise like a maniac all the time. Not one pound came off by itself. Not one!

The band is a bad idea as far as I am concerned,a temporary cure for a permanent problem.

Hope you can get your revision approved.

xxo

I have lost weight with the band... but, like you said, it hasn't been easy, and most times not very pleasant... lol

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
