Hi everyone! Just joined the group and I'm so excited to be part of such a wonderful community! I am pre-surgery, hoping to have my sleeve this summer. I am currently finishing up all my "pre-reqs" and working on losing the 5% of my weight that the MD requires. I am getting very excited to get it done!

My story is probably similar to a lot of yours. I was thin until college. My "freshman 15" was more like a freshman 50 and it just went up from there until I was 100 pounds overweight. I have tried every diet I know of, including a liquid diet I did about 6 years ago. I lost 100 pounds then and was so happy! I thought it was for life, but you know the ending to that story. I have since spent a lot of time working on the issues that caused me to use food and I was able to stop my binge eating. I feel I am finally in the right place to do this.

I am so ready to be out of this "prison" that my weight puts me in. There is so much life out there that I miss out on. Either being afraid I will be too fat or just too uncomfortable or tired. I have so much on my to do list!

I look forward to exploring this forum and getting to know you all a bit better!

Lauren

Hello Lauren and welcome! I am excited for you, I feel soooo much better now, it is amazing. I know how you feel about the "prison", I was in that too. I couldnt do anything with the kids cause I was too tired or too fat. My to do list is getting smaller...yours will too soon! Good luck to you!

Welcome :)

Good luck on your pre-req's. In the meantime I'll save you a spot on the loser's bench! As someone else said recently (I wish I could remember where/who exactly)... the loser's bench keeps on growing because the people keep on shrinking!

Keep us updated please!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
