Thought I Had More Muscle Under There...

Recommended Posts

Now that I have lost considerable weight I have found less muscle under that layer of fat than I thought was there. Perhaps some of my weight loss was muscle but I think my perception of how much of me was muscle was overly optimistic.

Now onto a bodybuilding regime!

I'm afraid I may be in the same boat, Gman! Hopefully, I'll find some muscle underneath all the fat layer once I whittle away at my abdomen! :)

Darn, and I here I figured I was all rippling abs and flexing muscles under all this fat, from having to carry myself around all the time!!

Apparently the skinny woman inside the fat me needs to work out more. *tsk*

Not only will you look better but you'll burn what fat you've left more efficiently if you add more muscle to your frame. It's almost impossible NOT to shed some muscle, especially in the very beginning when we can hardly eat.

You're doing great so far!

I used to have an exercise in which I would carry around a couple of 40 pound weights. It really worked my shoulders and legs. I carried the equivalent of that for years in fat so I thought my thighs would show it. Their stork-like appearance shows the error in my thinking.

Being 63 and less endowed with testosterone I may have a struggle to attain Mr. Olympia size. No problem, like most men I have the power to exaggerate what I see in the mirror. ;)B)

Lol. I was always a muscular young girl. I worked the Water and even did tree work, lifting 150lb logs, and bushels of oysters and crabs above my head. Im 38 now, and I'd be willing to bet that not only am I no longer a girl under all this, I bet muscular is a thing of the past too.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
