Upset Right Now. 1 Week Post-Op

Recommended Posts

I'm at my wits end right now and it's only been a week. I will have had my sleeve for exactly one week tomorrow (sleeved 5/15/11). I am about to be very over-dramatic and say that i am dying...i am so sick of Clear liquids. I am so "HUNGRY" i just want to chew on something. I don't know if I can wait until Saturday to just to start drinking milk, and eat pudding...wow I'd give anything for celery and ranch dressing right now which I would have been saying chicken nuggets before this. And then wait another week just to begin on sweet potatoes? It seems like eternity.

I'm crying. I'm losing it. I know this is for my health, I know in 6 months I will be healthier, happier, and eating REAL food just not binging on it. I know all of these things but I am so fed up with myself right now and needed to vent.

I am sick of popsicles.

I am sick of Powerade zero/tea/vitamin water/etc.

I'm sick of snowballs. I'm sick of all these sweet things like Jello.

I just want a bite of real food. Anything.

Sorry. I just really needed to have someone hear this.

It will get better. You have to walk before you can run. I went 13 WEEKS unable to eat or drink anything, on Clear Liquids for 5 weeks and was not allowed to have mash potatoes until 21 WEEKS after my surgery due to complications. I feel your pain but you are so close to where you want to be.

Inhale exhale inhale exhale. Hugs. It will be ok. It does get easier as time goes on. That I can promise you. You just gotta keep telling yourself that in a few months, you are really going to see dramatic results and it will all be worth the temporary torture. Trust me, don't attempt to eat. You risk tearing your staple line and that could be fatal. I know you know this. Keep doing what you are doing and take pictures of yourself because the first time you see a difference in even your face, you are going to be happy you went through that torture.

I totally understand!! I felt the same. I haven't touched Jello since I can now eat soft foods. It gets easier. I promise. How you feel & your reaction is normal. Just try to keep busy (I know easier said than done). I slept a lot but I had a lot of pain. TV sux cuz of the food commercials so I listened to music. It will get better & easier!! Hang in there. It's soooo worth it.

I know how you feel. The first week diet was worse than the pre op diet. Hang in until Saturday; it definitely gets better then.

It depends on your doctor - for me, gum is a no-no!

I'm almost in the same boat as Candice - surgery on 4/10 still on liquids due to some gastro issues.

Unless you like being in excruciating pain, you need to stick with your post op diet. I'm the first person to admit that I "cheated" every single day on the pre-op diet, but do not do it on post-op. I hate the word "cheating." Right now it wouldn't be cheating, it would be harmful. It will hurt you and could even set you back. It's a head game - you're not really hungry. I want hot dogs and tacos EVERY DAY.

Let's focus on what you can have in a week. It is just a week. Just a week. Keep telling yourself that. If you need to post here every time you're about to cave and do something dangerous to your tummy, do it.

OMG, that could have been me posting tonight! I am 1 week out today and I am SICK TO DEATH of the liquids. I did it pre-op for 2 week, so this makes 3 now. and I too would give ANYTHING to chew and swallow some real food.

My poor husband had to listen to me all day today (he's a saint and never said anything but encouragement).

I know it's dangerous. I know I shouldn't (and won't) stray from the diet.

BUT GOD, DO I WANT TO! :)

Thanks y'all. It really helps to hear from everyone and know that I can and WILL get through this. My gosh if this wasn't a life/death situation I'd never stick to this diet....but I will. I have to.

I'm going to turn in tonight early....I think that's best right now. Thanks for the support again, it's really meant a lot!

Same boat, surgery on the 15th and i'm starting to get VERY grouchy! I seriously haven't had anything to chew in lets see 20 days?? I haven't been able to do broth or Jello, i burnt out on them during my pre op deal... I'm living off crystal light and popsicles.. I did have a lick of the dogs ice cream cone tonight it took real power to not just woof it down..

I gone in for my 1 week tomorrow and i'm really hoping to do the full liquids atleast that means Soups, not sure what kind of Soups but i'll blend the hell out of anything at this point..

I'd also die for some frozen yogurt and any kind of meat...

I am one week out and can have full liquids, which includes cottage cheese (low-fat). I tried a couple of small bites yesterday. I was up half the night with gas pain! Gas-x was definately my go-to! Gave me refined for a little while, but then right back at it! I wasn't brave enough to try anything today! Back to square one! Now I am scared to try anything, I wish I had waited a little while longer to try it out!! It really wasn't worth it at all!

Honey I feel your frustration! I'm able to do full liquids and I've come to enjoy baby food, mashed potatoes puréed with chicken broth, a lil bit of butter and some salt. It's my staple. It's filling, tasty and makes me feel like I'm "eating". I sent my BF to get some eggdrop Soup for me, but I was too chicken to try it. It looked really greasy. I've also been "eating" cream of chicken soup puréed/liquified. I tell myself constantly "it'll get easier". Link up with someone locally... Or from here that you can text, call, etc. when ya need to vent. Prayers!

Chew ice. Even if you swallow the ice whole, it will dissolve in your tummy. It will give you the sensation of chewing. I do recommend that it be either crushed ice or Sonic ice, just because that will be easier. The bonus is that you'll get some more Water. I didn't do this because I have sensitive teeth, but I thought it was brilliant when another new post-op posted it!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
