Mab got a reaction from lunabella007 in What Was Your First Month's Weight Loss?
I lost 25 the first month and then slowed down (not complaining, I knew that's how it would be) and now at almost 3 months out, I'm down 50. Halfway there!

Mab got a reaction from MinaT in Drinks
As a former diet Coke-aholic (last one one on March 27th), I am drinking Water and only water. Crystal Light and all other powdered water flavorings tend to upset my tummy and/or give me heartburn. Tea especially gives me heartburn.
I've never tried MIO, though. Thoughts?
Do you guys have any other suggestions for flavored drinks I could try?

So the last time I pooped was Thursday, May 17th - diarrhea if that's relevant. I saw my surgeon on May 23rd and he said to add a Fiber supplement. I asked if Citrucel was okay and he said yes. NO POOP. I have tried apple juice and Dulcolax suppositories. NO POOP. I am not in any pain, but I can tell that something needs to get the hell out of there.
Is it time for an enema? If so, is there a preferred brand? At this point, I'm willing to try a hammer and chisel.

I was experiencing the same thing and my surgeon said it was dehydration.
He recommends 8oz Water right before bed and 8oz as soon as you get up.
Have been following that and havent has AM nausea since.

Mab got a reaction from MinaT in 1 Month Post-op: I Miss Veggies So Much!
Cat Lady - I'm just about in the same boat 7 weeks out and I've just been given the go ahead for soft chicken and fist. I was told I could do veggies, but they needed to be SMOOOOOOSHY. The doctor also said I could have berries, but I've been too nervous to try.
    We'll get there one day!

I make mashed cauliflower, too. I boil it until its falling apart. I use smart balance, cream cheese and cheddar cheese to mix with it. Then I put more cheddar cheese on top and stick it in the oven to brown it a bit. DELICIOUS.
I'm going to have to try yours, too - I love ranch.

Mab got a reaction from Lissa in Upset Right Now. 1 Week Post-Op
I'm almost in the same boat as Candice - surgery on 4/10 still on liquids due to some gastro issues.
Unless you like being in excruciating pain, you need to stick with your post op diet. I'm the first person to admit that I "cheated" every single day on the pre-op diet, but do not do it on post-op. I hate the word "cheating." Right now it wouldn't be cheating, it would be harmful. It will hurt you and could even set you back. It's a head game - you're not really hungry. I want hot dogs and tacos EVERY DAY.
Let's focus on what you can have in a week. It is just a week. Just a week. Keep telling yourself that. If you need to post here every time you're about to cave and do something dangerous to your tummy, do it.

    Congrats on your date!
I wasn't positive that I would go through with surgery until I was in the recovery room. The entire year of my pre-op appointments it felt like just something I was thinking about more than something real. Even on the OR table, I was deciding if I should actually go through with it, but then I woke up in recovery.
Honestly, if I had known how easy it was going to be, I wouldn't have spent so much time debating it. The worst part is the pre-op liquid diet. I expected pain that I didn't have. This was my first ever surgery at the age of 48 so I had no idea what to expect. I feel like I wasted a lot of emotion on worrying. By Day 5 I was back to my normal life. I wish I could have done this 20 years ago.

I will never never ever have another soda. It is such a trigger food for me. I have just learned to deal with life without it. I've been caffeine free for 4 months and feel wonderful. Everyone says even diet soda is bad for you, so I gave it up.

And stock up on SF popsicles. When I have a bout of head hunger now, I grab one and suck the heck out of it. It has really helped me. My favorites are the Popsicle brand (yellow box) tropical. I like the orange and the pineapple and let my husband have the fruit punch. Blech.

I had one repaired too. Based on other people's posts here, it think there may be a little more pain associated with the repair. Many people on these boards say they didn't have any pain, but I did.
I guess I don't mean pain so much as pressure, but the Lortab allowed me to relax comfortably. I think it was related to the hernia because when I took deep breaths, it slightly hurt (like breathing cold air). Don't be alarmed though, none of this was terrible pain like child birth.
    Good luck!

You both need to talk to your doctors about acid reducers. There is head hunger immediately post op, and then there's the hungry feeling produced because your body is still making acid like you're going to eat a whole buffet. Once that acid reducer kicks in, you'll feel less hunger.
    good luck!!

What you're feeling may not be hunger at all - it could be acid rolling around in your new tummy. I asked my doctor why my stomach was growling and he asked me why I thought it was growling. I told him because it's making noises and I can feel it. He said that stomach's do that. I think that several of us are on PPI's post surgery, ask your doctor if that's a possibility for you.
This surgery has changed everything that I thought I knew about hunger. I only trust my tummy to tell me when it's had enough because differentiating between actual hunger and head hunger - not to mention my perception of actual hunger - is really difficult. Basically I eat 3 times a day and that's it.

Mab got a reaction from arj1016 in 10 Days Out.... Should I Feel This Way?
I was sleeved on the 10th. I bent over for the first time today and was "rewarded" with a vicious cramp in my belly. My back constantly aches - in fact I'm taking pain medication for that rather than abdominal pain. I also had a hernia repair so my esophageal sphincter is pretty tight - can't burp so I feel like I have a rock on my chest. I was also having some awful heartburn, but my surgeon prescribed some Protonix and it's really helped that.
I think we all heal at different rates so lots of things are normal to feel right now. But we won't always feel this way.
