Liquid stage question

Recommended Posts

I don't see why not..... its just not a "clear" liquid, so ask your doctor at what phase you can drink it.

Cindy,

Some liquids/foods that our surgeons recommend are really a trial -N- error for each individual.

Be careful with the V8 juice.. tomato's are SO acidic and could cause you discomfort. You may have NO problems with it, and then you may...

try waiting a good week to test this one to your new tummy, k?

Another good thing to keep on hand during this phase is s/f pop sickles. It gives you the chance to CHEW - which is something we start grieving for after 2 or 3 days of liquids only. :(

cindyn,

Can you give me some ideas on what you're stocking up on. broth, Jello, etc. Anything else. Protien shakes? Let me know. I just started thinking about this tonight. I am being banded on Sept. 5th.

Another issue I was thinking about is cooking for the family. I told my dh that I won't be doing much cooking b/c it may be a problem for me. I'll be on liquids while everyone else is eating the steak I cooked for them. I don't think that may work for the first few weeks.

Let me know.

I would think V-8 would be good, but not until you are past the clear liquid stage. I actually didn't stock up on very much. Mostly a little juice, Jello, chicken broth. I did buy some Protein shakes pre-surgery to taste them. Some I didn't like very much (YUK).

You aren't going to be laid up for very long. You will be able to get yourself to the grocery store for what you are craving.

And EM1125 - I pre-cooked some meals and froze them for my DH. Actually, cooking really wasn't much of a problem. You will probably be just fine.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
