Questions For Post Op People

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I want to know about Hair loss, sagging skin. Your experience with the surgical center. How to look up support groups. Did you ever break your pre op diet and maybe have something you shouldn't have had?

Tell me the pros/cons of life now compared to before. The success rate of this surgery (any credible sources-even yourself as an example is fine).

That's about all i can think of right now. I'm going in on 4/11. Seattle, WA Dr. Landerholm.

This was the best thing I have ever done for myself. It is worth sagging skin, my thining hair. I used to be on 7 medicines a day now I am on one BP med and one reflux med. I used to have diabetes, now don't. I have more energy, I can play with the kids, take a walk with out becoming short of breath or having to stop. I can fit into booths at a resturaunt. There are so many things that are becoming a possibilty. Then greatest two things I love are that I feel full for the first time in my life, and I no longer feel hungry all the time.

In reality the only con, and it's not a biggie is that food used to a comfort, I now realize it really was a malignant comfort, causing me only bad health, and sadness. Nether the less it took some adaptation on my part.

I did have one cheat dinner during per op dinner. Did lose 13 pound even thought I did that.

I only know of the success stories here there are not that maany sleeves around my area, just the 20 some my surgeon had done at the time of my surgery. I know my ongoing success, that I will tak ONE DAY AT A TIME! :)

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
