Post Opers Over A Year: How Much Ounces Of Water Can You Drink In One Time?

Recommended Posts

I'd like to know how much Water you can drink in one sitting, and how much water do you drink before, during, and after an intense workout? This is one part of the surgery that I think might get to me. When I work out hard, I'm thirsty, and then I wonder... What now?

Hello Kiki - I'm 18 months out, so you have much to look forward to. I can drink as much water as I ever could, no problem. Early out is another story, so the only thing you can do is allow time to pass until you're able to drink more.

During a 45 Minute workout I will fill up a 23.9 Oz Smart water bottle and I'll usually have to sparse it out or I'll finish it too soon. I also will have a 32 Oz bottle of water at my desk and on aggressive days I'll drink it in 3 hours, less aggressive days I'll do 4 hours. I can drink 2-3 of these on any given day.

My usual intake is 72 Oz on days without workout and up to 128 Oz on days where I am working out.

Good luck in your journey!

Oh, okay thanks. I thought I could only drink like 2 oz and I was like OMG, I'm going to be so thirsty and uncomfortable! Lol.

I am about 14 months out and can attest that I too can drink just as much as I want - albeit a little slower than I used to be able to. I could slam a full bottle of Water in a minute or two, now it takes me 3 or 4 for a fast drink. Otherwise I DO get a bellyache if I drink to fast.

It's good to hear your responses, because this was a big issue for me in my head. I have to still practice to drink more throughout the day, but have been known to wait until I am thirsty then guzzle my Water down. I'm trying to retrain myself in regards to my water intake.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
