Recommended Posts

I have burning reflux constantly. It started 2 days after surgery. I have tried all the liquid over the counter stuff including some chewables... tums, mylanta, etc... Any suggestions??? Please help if you can.

My doctor prescribes Nexium right after surgery, I doubt that liquid stuff will do any good.

I was on Preacid...never had any problems with it. Dr kept me on it for 90 days & said I shouldn't need it after then. I've been fine since I was taken off it. Good luck.

I was sent home with a 6 month prescription. Never had it before but I sure notice if I forget to take one! Get the rx from your doc, it is waaay cheaper if you have good insurance. ( prilosec by the way)

I am sorry you are having this problem i am almost 5 months out and still have bad days. I know that depends on what i eat. I took the liquid ranitidine for the first month and then went to the prilosec. If i take it every day twice a day it seems to help. I wish you the best of luck in this i know it is no fun.

My doc sent me home from hospital with 30-day prescription of Prevacid. Pre-surgery I would take Prilosec when I had problems. He told me to stop taking that and takee the Prevacid instead. Once I got that in me, the acid improved tremendously!

I know that feeling and it ain't a good one! Good luck.

Thank you everyone for the advice. I had my surgery self-pay in Mexico... I am not sure if I can get a script from there or not and unfortunately I do not have insurance. I was hoping for an over the counter cure... Guess I will call the surgeon today and see what he can do...

I know u can get ranitidine pills over the counter here - I would try Walmart or target pharmacy and see if they carry liquid - I know the both have $4 prescription plans u may luck out on cost

Since you do not have insurance maybe if you are close with your PCP you could call them and see if they would call in a script for ranitidine to Walmart and hope that it is on their $4 plan.. I just checked and they are on the Walmart $4 plan so I would try my family doctor. I am not sure if the doctor from Mexico can give you a script for here in the US.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
