Frustrated With Cigna

Recommended Posts

My surgeon submitted my paperwork on Feb 15th. I called last week to check the status and was told that it should only take 15 days from the date of submmital. She told me they should have an answer by March 7 and to call back then. So I called today only to be advised that they haven't even looked at my claim and it was still pending. To add insult to injury he stated that since my policy doesn't require a pre-Auth (they do it as a courtesy) my paperwork isn't scheduled to be reviewed until March 14 and the soonest I could expect to hear something is March 19....my surgery is set for March 20. They are adamant about not getting to it a moment sooner. It's so frustrating. I don't know how others get a fast approval with Cigna. I started my three week liver shrinking diet last week, got my medical leave from work approved, made arrangements for someone to take off work to be with me...amongst other things. I can't stand the thought of having to reschedule my surgery. Does anyone know what I can do to get Cigna to speed up the process?

I was very close to surgery when my paperwork was submitted. My doctors office faxed in a rush request to move things along faster. I don't know if it would have happen as quickly without it, but the letter from the doctors office couldn't hurt. And TRUST me, pre-cert is ALWAYS a good idea for such high ticket items.

The insurance coordinator from my surgeon's office has called three times. They do not appear to care LOL. I guess b/c my plan doesn't require it they leave it in the bottom of the barrel until it gets freakishly close to the 30 days. I want to call everyday like someone suggested but I don't want to make'em mad :0)

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
