9 Days To My Vertical Sleeve Surgery

Recommended Posts

Counting the days -9, until my gastric sleeve surgery. I currently weigh 242, at 5ft 2 in. Had my hip replaced last Aug 1 at St Joes. very successful, no problems. Came up rather suddenly while going through the pre op process for gastric surgery so had to put that on hold. Now I am ready. Concerned at all the posts about dehydration. Will continue to follow the posts.

I am just getting started in this process, so this may sound dumb, but does anyone know if baby food is a good option at first?

Are u asking if you can eat baby food after surgery? Your surgeon or Nutritionist should tell you what foods you can eat and when. But when you are in the pureed stage, yes baby food is fine. Even add a lil seasoning to it and it makes it taste much better. But instead of baby food if you wanted, you could always just puree what you want to eat. tuna, a lil mayo(lite) and an egg is awesome. Just about any Soup pureed is really yummy. There are many options. Good luck!!!

I was told by my nutritionalist no on the baby food due to the high sugar content.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
