I Am Looking For A Surgery Buddy And Support - Surgery 4/28

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I am looking for a surgery buddy and people who are also going through this to go through it with me. I currently have my surgery scheduled with Dr. Almanza on April 28 (Eeeee!!!! So excited!!!). I am wanting some positive people to do this with that will understand what I'm going through and be there to text, email or call when we need it.

I am a very positive person, 39, BMI is 39. I live in Dallas, I'm a CPA, no husband or children (yet... I hope!!). Please let me know if you are interested in going through this adventure with me!

Take care,

Cynthia

I would be interested and I'm 39 too!

I am hoping that I can break the 200 mark before my 40th birthday!

I am tentatively scheduled to have my surgery 4/11 with Dr. Feiz and my current weight is 257.

YAY! I am so excited for my surgery date to get here. So, what are you doing to prepare ahead of time? Are you nervous? Excited? I look forward to getting to know you!

I just got my tentative date two days ago, so my head is spinning at bit about the things I need to do to prepare.

I have been focusing on eating behaviors (taking smaller bites, chewing more slowly, putting my utensil down between bites, eating at the table and without distractions, etc.) as well as looking into foods, etc. that will be a part of my new life after the surgery. I ordered a variety sample pack of nectar and I will probably head to GNC or the Vitamin Shoppe soon to see what individual packets they have to try.

I am most worried about finding a Vitamin that I can tolerate. I hate chewables!

I'm not scared or nervous about the surgery aspect. I know what to expect as I have had other lap surgeries in the past. I know I will need to take it slow and not expect too much out of my body while giving it a chance to heal. I am a planner by nature so I am happy to have this time to work out some kinks ahead of time in terms of what I will need to do.

What about you?

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
