Surgery Date 2 Feb 2012

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, wow I am so grateful to have found this site. I live in Australia, on the Gold Coast. My surgeon is dr Layani, he is very wellknown and have done these operations for years, he also trains other Bariatric surgery surgeons, so I feel very safe for him to be in charge.

I am currently on the 2 week pre op diet, made up of 3 optislim shakes a day, plus fruit or vegetables with each shake and Snacks of fruit or diet jelly twice daily.

Starting the pre op diet, I weighed 136.1kg. I was a very big baby and have had a lifelong struggle with my weight. At this stage of my life, 54, I could no longer teach, I have a very rare disease, degenerative crumbling of bones in my lower back, fybromyalgia and type 2 diabetes. Unfortunately, because of the disease (Sweets syndrome) I have to take steroids for the rest of my life. I know there are things I cannot change, but by having this surgery, I am hoping to live a life with less pain (hopefully I will be painfree!) and more energy!

I have one week before surgery and would be so grateful if any of you have some suggestions, tips, or information about post surgery. Is it very painful? I am concerned that because I am diabetic, that the wound will take longer to heal?

I wish all of you, wherever you are on you journey, the best of luck, I will keep you in my prayers.

Elize

:welcome: hi aussie

I am 34 days post op. Just a few thoughts on post op -pain is kind of relative, after surgery you might be a little tired, a little weak, a little sore, one incision hurt for a few days. As for me, that was pretty much my after surgery "results" - other people can tell you more.

I have diabetes II - i don't think it took me any longer to heal. Diabetes has so much to do about your diet, what you eat, the correct quantities. I was on metaform for years, but then i became resistant to it. So i've been on insulin these past few years. No More :hurray:

The surgeon took me off insulin in the hospital til i saw my PHP in two weeks - PHP said no more insulin. Gone, yeah :woot:Diabetes disappears for many after surgery. I hope for you too.

Good luck....enjoy your journey through sleeveland

Best wishes

Kathy

Hi All -

I was sleeved on Jan. 25th & was released from the hospital today. I've been a type II Diabetic for the 6 years and I'm happy to say that I have been taken off of my metformin as well as lipitor.

I experienced a lot of naseau after the surgery but by the 2nd day I was much better.

Good luck on your journey!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
