Question For People Who Not Insured Through Their Job.

Recommended Posts

I'd like to know how much is insurance monthly for a person with one or two people? I tried googling it, and have came up with so many different answers and usually the companies want you to call and speak with them. They ask you questions first, instead of the straight answer. I want to know because I'm still waiting to see the doctor towards the end of the month, and I am not sure how long the wait for surgery might be with my current insurance, but I have an idea it will be six months, could be a year. I currently have a Health Plus. The last figure I saw online was something like 400 a month for one person, or something like that.

You're not going to find specific health insurance rates online without calling into a company and giving your medical history/selecting your options first. I recommend finding one of the bigger carriers in your state, usually an Anthem or Humana because they have the biggest network of doctors. Most individual plans DO NOT COVER Sleeve surgeries. The plans that do cover it are usualy on large group plans offered through an employer.

Hope that helps

If you can afford the cost of the health insurance you could save that and do a self pay. You wouldn't have to delay your surgery nearly as long either.

Do you have 401 savings? You can often take a medical loan from your savings.

No 401K. I think I'll just wait and find out. I called insurance, gave them CPT code and was told it was covered. We shall see. Thanks everyone.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
