Dang! Gained 6 Lbs

Recommended Posts

The doctor unfilled my band to get me ready for surgery. I guess to give my stomach a break. I've gained 6 lbs in about a week and half. I still have about 3 weeks to surgery! I wish they'd give you diet pills to help until surgery.

Any suggestions?

I would go back on he Protein Shakes for at least a couple of meals a day. I had me band removed but did not have the Water taken out before surgery.....thus I did not have the weight gain and I had to be on 2 weeks of the pre-op diet just as with the lapband. You will lose that 6 pounds and more so do not worry too much. I would be careful as not to gain too much before surgery as it is just more that you will have to lose once you get the sleeve.

ok...now I'm concerned...what is the usual procedure when you are revising to the sleeve...I too have a lapband that needs to be removed.....I guess I need to ask now....I know the reason why I haven't gained anymore weight is because my band is still filled (even though I have only lost a few pounds with it in 7 years)

You may just have to roll with it until your surgery. Does your doctor seem concerned about the gain? I was advised to go on a low carb regimen before surgery, but I gained 5 pounds out of sheer nerves and it didn't seem to matter.

You'll be ok.

Rev, I'm so glad to hear your doctor recommended a low carb diet because that's what I'm doing (Atkings style). I haven't seen my doctor since she pulled the Fluid out so, I don't know if she'd be concerned. I don't want to continue gaining so, I'm doing Atkins type low carb this week then next week I'll do liquid Protein shake diet with my Protein (Designer Whey) and the following week I'll do my doctor's Bariatric Advantage Protein Shake diet. She only requires one week pre-op liquid diet. My band doctor required two weeks so, I want to go ahead and do two just to be safe.

I don't have to much trouble sticking to an Atkins type diet because I feel like I get to eat so much plus it'll help me cut out the carbs & sugar before I start the liquid diet. It helps me cut down the crazings.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
