Hi...My first appmnt w/ the surgeon is on Monday and I'm a bit nervous, too.

I did all the pre-testing and had the results sent to him and I'm afraid something will come up that I hadn't known about and he won't be able to do the band. They did come up w/ a hiatal hernia, but I've been told that is fairly common.

Also, I'm a self-pay for the band. So, let's say the surgeon says that he needs to fix the hernia. Since my health insurance WOULD cover that, what do I say?...Do the band now and we'll got into the hernia later?

Does anyone know if health insurance will pay for the part they will cover while they are in there placing the band? How would something like this be filed? Has anyone had experience w/ this?

Very confusing..........But I AM going to have this done!

Best wishes with your appointment. I'm sure it will go well.

well to me it seems like your insurance would cover the hernia surgery as long as the surgeon is qualified, but im not sure.

Danie,

I felt like the job interview was for the surgeon, not for me. That said, I think a LOT of people feel like you do! My surgeon requires that new patients bring a spouse/friend to the consult with them because --in his words-- you're usually so nervous and all you care about is hearing that, yes, you can have the band. So, you're definitely not alone.

If you think it'll help your nerves, type out your list of questions and bring a copy for the doctor. He'll be glad to see you're serious about the process and it'll make sure you get all your questions answered, even if you're nervous.

Good luck!

I felt the real interview came from the pyschiatrist, as well it should. I was interested in my surgeon I think even more so than he was in me. I wanted to be sure I liked him, and one look at his jolly face and I knew I would....and I did. I think he is wonderful, as I'm sure many of us think our surgeons are. When I met with him I had been approved for the surgery, so meeting him was simply the icing on the cake. Anesthesiology, nurtrition and the surgeon were all met in the same day and all went well, except for the constant delays in my surgery that were no fault of his. These were things that happened unexpectantly to me. Good luck and don't be nervous.

LOL-I didn't, but only because he banded my DH and I knew him. But I can understand, it's something we all want, and the surgeon has the power to grant it or not.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
