Stupid Question For Ya, Does Water Go Right Through After Gastric Sleeve Surgery?

Recommended Posts

I was wondering when we have been sleeved and drink Water does it go straight through the sleeve??? or does it sit in the sleeve?

I can pretty much drink without much pain but I dont want to stretch my sleeve and risk a leak because I drink too much water.. is that possible? I am 3 weeks out and am doing well but I dont want to stretch my sleeve. any advice is appreciated...

Water won't stretch your sleeve. I don't think it goes straight through, but it does drain faster than solids from your stomach.

since you are 3 weeks out too can I ask you a question? My NUT told me that eating 3 oz of yogurt at one time is too much, but it doesnt bother my sleeve at all, but I am not getting much food in, how much yogurt can you eat? and are you able to eat a whole egg? I think I could but Im afraid to since my nut said that...

I'm still suppose to be on full liquids so I have not tried yogurt yet. I did try a taste of an egg but it was only a bite because I was going crazy on the liquids. Yesterday I made some tuna for the family and ate 2 spoon fulls. I have had no complications. I love yogurt and have not thought to try it so I will try some today and let you know.

Liquids pass through pretty quickly after a brief stop in the stomach. This is why a lot of people suggest NOT drinking with meals as it tends to wash the food right through the stomach with the liquid. I have no issues with it and need to drink with meals as I have to drink a LOT of Water to prevent kidney stones.

Wow that's great! My Dr. is hardcore so I had to take matters in to my own hands and experiment. Two weeks of liquids pre-op and 4 weeks post-op, enough is enough lol.

I'm glad you asked this because I was wondering the same thing. At my office they say to drink 8oz over an hour but I can drink a bottle of Water which is 16.9 oz in one hour. I keep wondering if I am hurting my sleeve or not. I don't feel pain or discomfort or that full feeling at all.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
