Nervous about solid foods.

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I am almost to my second week post op and already concerned about even being able to eat solid food ever again. I have taken a few sips of V-8 or a Protein Shake and it will tighten right up for a long time. I haven't started the mushy food stage yet but am even a little concerned about that. How big is my hole anyway without a fill versus with a fill? Thanks Teresa

You both are still healing and your insides might be swolen still. You could eat oatmeal- CoCowheat. Just go slow. You might only eat 1 ounce. Just make sure you are getting your Protein in so your body will function. Don't worry you will be lose and ready for a fill in a few weeks. I have read that some people stay tight for 2-3 even 6 months with out getting a fill. But not often..

Just keep doing what you are doing and you will be okay!

Teresa -

You are almost to your second week? Meaning, you are still in your first week?

It is very likely that as you heal your restriction will ease up - it's still early!!! I wasn't hungry until the end of my 3rd week.

And if you are not ready to move to thicker liquids on the doc's schedule - then DON'T!! There is nothing wrong with taking the changes slower - just don't take them faster.

Newlapper - as long as you are on liquids, any liquid is fine. Most docs do not require the liquid to be Protein. I am not advocating you going against your doc's orders, but since you already have...

:D

Hello,

My doctor gave me a list and it tells me I can have blended items including fruits and vegetables during my second week which starts today. I am just slowly trying things and making sure they have the right consistency (very smooth). I have tended to be hungry too the last week and do better with the V-8 and Protein drinks. I had a few sips of one the other day though and I felt really tight in my pouch area and it took awhile to ease. It wasn't painful but not real comfortable either. It hasn't happened since. Must have just been more tight than normal that day. I wondered if this was the full sensation we were supposed to feel and wasn't real sure I liked it. On the other hand it will feel weird being able to eat more solid items later after so long on liquid and blended food. Can you tell me some of the favorite items you ate at the different stages from about 2 weeks on? Thanks.

Teresa,

Whaddaya wanna bet that, three weeks from today, you are posting that you have absolutely no restriction and that you're terrified that you will fail at this LapBand thing? This is way normal. Relax and get well.

This is my 11th day post-op. I feel great. I decided to try green Beans, mash potato with gravy and slowly enjoyed it. Felt burst of energy, then walked 1 mile. I think soft is good with my yogurt.

Ok, so I'm at 12-weeks postop (surgery 3/1/04), and it seems every day is an experiment in food choices. I mean, I have my staples now -- yogurt, cheese sticks, V8 (5.5 oz can), cottage cheese and oatmeal, but it seems that after eating the same stuff morning and noon, by dinner I want something tasty.

bread is always a problem, any kind it seems, but toast does work as long as I keep it dry and not put anything on it. Pasta works ok, as does a cooked tortilla (no raw ones however - painful!). So, I guess I am still on the road of a very long learning curve. I have had one fill, what a change that caused in my food choices! One thing I have to remind myself of daily is that this was my choice, and it was the right choice for me - and whatever challenges I run into related to food choices are a victory waiting to be discovered!

At 12 weeks, I've lost 34 pounds - WOW! Hang in there and enjoy the ride. Sometimes it hurts, but pain or no pain, the band is working!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
