December sleevers!

I've been seeing a lot of people who now have December surgery dates, just wanted to say HI, and give us a place to talk while we wait (and count down the days) for our surgeries.

My surgery is on December 9, 2011;

My doctor is Justin Braverman from the N.E.W. Program in Newport Beach, CA;

I start my pre-op liquid diet on November 25th;

And will be sleeved at Tri-city hospital in Hawaiian Gardens, CA.

What about everyone else?

Yes, he's my surgeon too! I'll be getting sleeved 12/27 at Georgetown. I'm meeting him one on one tomorrow,,nervous.

Peacequeen,

Dr. Weiss is the best in the Bluegrass! He's never had a death and only 1 leak ever (no leaks leaving the hospital, leak occurred 5 days after the patient was released. Leak was mostly due to his weight of 575. Those are the facts he shared) I started my pre-op diet today...so far so good!

Tomorrow is the beginning of our new lives. Wishing you well and I will meet you on the loser's bench!

Good luck Roxy! Praying for you and I am right behind you!Banane55.gif

On a related (to my last post above) note, how are y'all planning to deal with the inevitable comments about your weight loss? Do you plan to be open about the surgery? Or keep it private?

Sometimes I think I'll be totally open about it. When anyone asks or comments, I'll just say, "Thanks. I had 80% of my stomach removed." I tend to be a pretty matter-of-fact person, so that approach appeals to me a lot. Except then it opens me up to criticism. But do I care? I haven't decided yet.

Or there's the honest but slightly evasive version: "I'm eating less and moving more." But that doesn't quite do it justice.

I guess it'll just depend on context. I hate the idea of having to hide the fact that I had surgery. But, again, it's really not anyone else's business.

Thoughts?

I would just say that I did have some surgery on my stomach to help me lose weight because I want to be healthier. I looked at all the options and this was the right choice for me!

I've been open with many of my colleagues from day one. Many have seen me struggle with my weight over the years. All have been very supportive and very encouraging from the start. I even had a couple of colleagues come up to me to reveal they too had WLS. .

While its no one business I believe in being honest. Besides, I may help someone who is on the fence with getting WLS .

HELLO DECEMBER SLEEVERS!!!

im jaz! my surgery date is dec 20th at 8am. wish me luck <3

He is awesome,,I'm very blessed to have him as my surgeon. Hey..I start my pre op diet tomorrow :) We'll go through the grief together..lol

I had surgery today!! Surgeon said it went well.

I have to tell you the first 4-5 hours post op were pretty unpleasant. I was so glad that I have been reading forums so I knew that that it would get better and just did alot positive imagery to help me endure. I walked when I didn't feel like it but but it paid off. I had fierce gas pain coupled with nasuea - but I am getting excellent care and they threw the book at the nasuea and I never puked. I will be going home in the morning!

Congratulations, CowgirlJane. Glad all went well and hope you have continued improvement in the days to come.

I am in the odd situation of working from home for a large company. I do go into an office occasionally, but the people I see I don't actually work with. its weird.So I've told two people I work with, but most don't know and won't need to know, because they've never seen me in real life, so by the time I ever meet them, all they will ever know is what i look like at that point. The other people who have seen me, it will probably be enough time that I can just simply say "I lost weight."

Hey December sleevers! I just got into TJ and have my surgery tomorrow afternoon. I'm really nervous about the proceduce. Wish me luck!!

Hey everyone! I scheduled my surgery today, and am an official December Diva! My surgery is scheduled for December 20th!!! I am sooo excited, and a little bit scared. All of this has moved really fast for me. I first started thinking about this mid-November, had my initial consult Nov. 21st, sleep study a week ago, and then today got the approval call and scheduled the surgery!

A little bit about me- I am 28, married for seven years, with two dogs and two cats. I like to crochet, cross-stitch, read, go for walks, and play with my nieces(who are 3 and 6). I teach Sunday school to 4-6 year olds at my church, and am really hoping that this surgery will help me become fertile again. We have been wanting a family for about three years now, and are in the process of getting licensed to adopt out of the foster care system. I have always wanted a big family!

My heaviest ever was 321, at the first consult I was286, and am now at 277! Ready to get my life back on track and get this show on the road!
