What's wrong with my thermostat?

Recommended Posts

One week today since surgery, (hooray!) I am finding that my internal temperature seems to fluctuate pretty wildly. Sometimes it seems I just can't warm up; other times I wake up in a puddle of sweat or feel like I'm back to having the hot flashes that stopped several years ago for me. :( My poor husband is having deal with my changing the heat setting up and down multiple times a day. Is this a common problem?

Not uncommon. I had the same thing. Some of it can be anesthesia. It takes our bodies weeks to get rid of all of its effects. Plus, a drastic change in calorie intake can fluctuate blood sugars, not dangerous but annoying.

I had severe diaphoresis (bed soaking night sweats) after the births of each of my children. I understand that this can be caused by anesthesia (epidural or general) and also changing in the hormones, which is caused by a sudden shift in the Fluid balance of the body (such as that caused by a sudden weight loss). After the birth of my first child, I weighed 30lbs. MORE the day after he was born than on the day of his birth (a total gain of about 45lbs. Overnight.) because of a slight case of toxemia. They didn't give me anything for it because I was nursing. I sweated it off over the next two weeks a gallon at the time. It was amazing. You could almost hear me slosh when I walked. I hope I never sweat like that again!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
