Surgery Scheduled, but...

Recommended Posts

I'm not all that excited. I've been lurking and reading posts. Everyone else seems so excited to be getting their band. I'm just kinda ...ehhh. I know this is a good thing, both medically and psychologically. I just wish I was more excited.

I guess part of it is that my surgery date is causing all sorts of schedule conflicts in the family. My mom (the nurse) was supposed to take me and help through the recovery bs. But, alas, she will be leaving on a business trip the day before. So either my dad has to take off work and fly back home or one of my aunts has to fly in. Either way, its going to be a huge (pardon the pun) inconvenience.

Okay I have to stop now, because I feel like a whiner. Sorry about that. :)

Congratulations on deciding to get banded!!! Its one of the hardest decisions to make. You have a great supportive family, and I dont think that they would volunteer to come out if they thought that you were inconviencing them. I think they may understand, and you arent the only one who has problems like this.

There are a couple of threads here w/ ppl going through the exact same thing you are, ie: a woman whos husband made her drive to and from the hospital and wouldnt even walk her in or support her in anyway.

When I scheduled my sx several things kept coming up for me, I had to change dates because I was inconviencing my coworkers, or my mom got sick, or something else happened. Everytime I tried to get close, something, anything seemed to get in my way. Its hard, and you feel like you are a pain, but its not you, its life getting in the way.

Do your aunts work??? Id probably gun for one of them to come help, if you need it.

I am excited but have my own personal reservations as well! But hey I will be your August 4th band buddy!

It will all work out... just stay positive and think about how great it will be a year from now!

Hugs,

Thanks for the support. I'm sure I'll feel better once the surgery actually happens. I guess I"m just nervous, I've never had any type of surgery before.

Do your aunts work???
The aunt who might come is mostly retired from a family business. She only works when she feels like it. So I guess that would be easiest for everyone.:guess

It's natural to be nervous about your surgery and it's good you're having someone stay with you. I did the surgery alone, got a ride home the morning after the surgery and would have loved to have someone stay with me the first night. You're sore for 5-6 days and then start feeling human again so try and not worry too much.

Oh Elizabeth, I feel for you that you were alone. That must have been tough, although if I had stayed in Idaho I would have been alone also. I am with family and had my daughter and grandson with me in Nashville for the surgery, and lots of help from all of them, including my son-in-law when I got home. It is a great feeling to have supportive family around. You are very brave and very determined to have done this alone.

God Bless,

Hi Kutia, I was banded on July 13th with Dr. Ortiz and I made the trip alone. I was feeling aprehensive and then the girl next to me on the plane started talking about the fact that she was 300 lbs. the year before and had gastric bypass sx. She looked great, but the weird thing is I had just woken up and had not confided to her the reason for my trip. When I got to my hotel room I turned on the TV and there was a commercial on for gastric surgery. I always say that there are no coincidences. I then met and had a great time with other new bandsters at the hotel and clinic. I actually had a great time! I felt I was at the right place at the right time to make a positive change in my life.Best of luck and I'm sure you will find pals when you arrive. Eve

I got a call yesterday July 21st that I was approved to get my band. I am a little scared too. But I know this is going to be the best thing yet. I also have to get my gallbladder removed because of gallstones. I am excited to get on with this new part of my life. I have friends that say I should not get this done and friends that support me. Its only a win win for me because I will not have all of this excess weight. I have an appt on Thursday to go in and finish everything before I can schedule my surgery. Its scary to know this will change alot of my life. But on the otherhand, this is going to be the best decision I have made regarding my weight and health. Just try to be positive, it will all work out.

Im flying to Houston from Minnesota all by myself on Thursday, having the band placed on Friday, and flying home Saturday. Im feeling exactly the same way you are! Im very nervous about being alone. But then on another hand I feel empowered and excited to be able to do this by myself. I feel proud and so should you. I will try to post as soon as I get home from Houston to let you know that I survived and so will you!

I hope you have had a great weekend! I have been trying to do more research and get my house clean and everything in my life in order... so I can come home to a fresh new start. That seems to be keeping me pretty busy and seems to be helping the time pass faster!

Keep in touch!

I'm trying to make sure I have enough of the clear & full liquids to last me for awhile. I don't want to have to worry about going to the grocery store.

My dad's going to come home for the weekend to drive me to the surgery center and back again. I'm hoping I'll be one of the lucky ones with no complications and very little pain. Once my dad goes back to work on Sunday I'll be all by my lonesome for about a week. Well, except for the dogs & cats. :)

Which is actually a good thing. There won't be anyone to tease me with real food. :hungry:

edit: Well, my aunt is coming in too. I'm going to have all the help I can handle.

Today I set my date to be banded on August 1st. Yeah! I will post as soon as it is over and I can type on the computer. I am nervous as too. Its a scary thing to have surgery and know that things do not go wrong. I have been praying for this and it is finally here. Beleive me God would not be letting me have this surgery if it was not a good thing. Everything would get into the way of me having this surgery and its been everything but. I went in for my 1st consultation on June 6th and I am having my surgery Aug 1st. Things never go that smooth for me in my life. So I know this is a God thing.

I made it! Im banded and it isn't that bad. When I first woke up from anesthesia it was a kinda scary. I was really tense so they had to give me 3 shots of something to try and make me relax. It was sorta hard to breath for awhile because they said the air that the doctor fills your abdomen up with to do the surgery had to work its way out so that my lungs could expand. After a few hours I was breathing pretty normally and then I was discharged. I went to the hotel with my nurse sitter.

I thought I was going to have to be all alone but then my sweetie pie husband had my sister flown to Houston for me so that she could take the place of the nurse sitter and fly home with me. All in all it really wasn't that bad and I survived and Ive lost 5 lbs since Thursday. yeahhh!! You'll be fine too!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
