New guy here

I'm new to the site. Been struggling with my weight for 10-12 years now and have decided to do the gastric sleeve. I've got all the referals, 5 yr history and psych evals in and will get seeing the surgeon in about a week. Maybe looking at having the surgery in October. Right now my BMI is 38, but has fluctuated between 37 and 45 the past 10 years. I exercise pretty well (3-4 days a week), but my appetite and even the types of food I eat are the real issues. I'm stocking up on the necessary supplements and liquid shakes that will be needed. I'm ready to roll with this! Any comments, suggestions or things anyone thinks I need to know or be aware of will be appreciated!

Welcome to VST. I'd chat more with you but I'm prepping for surgery right now. There's a plethora of info on here and extremely knowledgeable people here to lend a helping hand. Good luck on your journey. Again, welcome!

Welcome from me as well. I think you will love this website. Read away in the next few days and you will have great questions for your surgeon on your upcoming appointment. Come often, the wealth of information here is amazing.

Best wishes!

Thanks for the advice! I will visit here often!

Hi there Mark. :) Well, there is tons of information and it's hard to start just in the middle, so if you have any specific questions I'm more than happy to help out. You will really love it here. Everyone's friendly and very open to help out. I rarely see a topic with even only a few replies.

Good luck in the coming months!!!

Welcome Mark, just jump right in and start to contribute and ask questions. We need more MEN around here! :)

Thanks Rootman and everyone else for the welcome! I look forward to finding out more info and even sharing some later down the road once I'm in the process. I see Dr this Thursday. Would be nice to get an idea or appt of when this may be done.

Hey new Guy, I must be the new Girl.

Not only do I struggle with my weight but I am also rubbish at anything technical so if you get this message it will be a miracle!!! I have just had sleeve surgery 6 weeks ago and honestly it is the best thing I have ever done, not the easy option by any means but once you have made that mental decision you have to go for it!!. Let me know how you get on!

Went to the Dr this morning and since they are center for excellence, they went ahead and scheduled my surgery for Thur Nov. 3rd. Pre-op is on Oct 20th and is supposed to be all day. Getting pretty excited and ready now! I've got most of my supplements/vitamins and pre-op diet shakes now.

My surgery is the day after yours. Very excited also. Good luck to you.

Went for my pre-op yesterday and eveything is a go for Nov 3rd. I start my pre-op diet on my birthday (Oct 25th). May have to endulge the day before instead........ I want to get started the right way on my pre-op, even if it means having to do so on my birthday. I'm a little concerned about the 10 day diet, but trying to approach it as making for a smoother less complicated surgery and there's always some people that have to do it longer than 10 days, so it could be worse for me. I'm pumped and ready to do this!

Welcome and good luck on your journey. I started my 2 week pre-op diet today. My surgery is 2 weeks from today!

I am scheduled for Nov 1 and started my pre op diet on the 18th. I won't lie, the first few days really sucks!! It's hard because your hungry and you basically quit food cold turkey... Sorry for the pun. But I am now 5 days in and it was alot easier today. I am eating my jello and last protein shake of the day as I type. Just remember it will be worth it in the end. I've lost 8 lbs in 5 days so that has given me incentive too !!! Good luck and keep your eye on the prize. By January we will be shopping for new clothes and feeling great about ourselves. :)
