Need Ideas, sick of same foods

Recommended Posts

I am in the soft/mushy stage. I was told no Pasta, breads, rice, fruits (other than bananas), sugar, honey, sherbet, ice cream. I have been eating eggs, refried Beans, chili, yogurt, cheese, deli meat. I was told I could have fish/shrimp but that hurt and I don't wanna try that again! I have never been one that is good at being creative or cooking so any suggestions would be nice since I still have 2 more weeks of this and I'm already getting bored.

How about white Beans and pesto sauce? Meatballs in marinara sauce? Shrimp salad (maybe chopped won't hurt?) Flavored cream cheese rolled up in turkey slices? Cottage cheese and chives, or bananas, or Tomato sauce? A yogurt smoothie with bananas?

I am thinking about making sloppy joes tomorrow for my mushy--my list also includes the meat out of a taco, spaghetti sauce with some meat in it, and meatloaf. I had chili with cheese today and it was awesome!!!

Taco meat with sour cream is really good too. You can melt cheese on top.You should be able to have chicken salad too.

two weeks out I just started on solid foods, my doctor didn't seemed concerned. The whole purpose of soft stage is to build you back up to solids but doctor said after two weeks internal staples are healed and as I told him, he sorta agreed, chewing something like meatloaf, chicken, even pieces of steak 50 times is like putting it in the blender.

Just try small amounts of things and see what stays down and doesn't come back up :)

Have you checked out the recipe sharing section of this forum? There are so many ideas, you could have something different every day for months. :)

Good luck!

I still eat a lot of eggs, just in different ways. Remember you can poach, fry, scramble.... not to mention egg salad or deviled eggs. Each one tastes very different.

Try some blended Soups as well... I have an Thai flavored edamame posted in the recipes section. But you can make white bean with rosemary or a nice butternut squash. The flavors are so different that you can't get bored. I like to freeze my Soups in 1/2 cup portions in the freezer and just grab one out the door when I go to work.

crab cakes! scallops, meatloaf, tuna salad, taco without a shell, chicken with broccoli and cream cheese all blended together (yum) Use more cream cheese and less chicken at first until your stomach gets used to it. It acts like food lube when it gets warm and melts.

Honestly, I almost just blended whatever the Protein part of the family meal was. I even tossed some eggplant parmesan into the blender one night. It was to die for after living on liquids for so long.

You could use ground turkey for taco meat. With the seasonings, you can make it taste really good. At that stage, I made it soupy with a lot of sour cream, some mashed up avocado and melted cheese. very yummy

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
