Yesterday, I tried the boxed mashed sweet potato's by Betty Crocker. It went down very smooth and they were pretty. I would prefer the fresh one, however, I was being lazy and used the boxed ones.

It's worth the try, they were sweeter than I expected, but I thinned them out and used soy milk so it wasn't so bad. Hope this helps.

There are some really good recipies online about sweet mashed potatoes. I had them when I was on mushies. Really tasty. I wouldn't worry about the cals or carbs just yet, just worry about your hydration. The mushies are used to get your tummy used to having something in it besides liquids again.

i was told that potatoes, and starches in general are not to be eaten in the beginning as they goof up weight loss ( they convert to sugars) i dont know what to think. seems to be everything in a general guideline. im 14 days post op, ive eaten and chewed up a oz or two of the fake crab meat stuff (its a processed fish called surimi) was totally yummy kept it down no problem. i had some soft processed meat last night, ate 3 oz's chewed it up really well kept it down....im still on the stupid full liquid stage. i ate some odd ball stuff last night and still lost 1/2 a pound. its all about controlling portions, really. Fluid stage...hehe.. dont get off that until Thursday hopefully when i see my doc.

i wonder should i even tell him how well im tolerating stuff.

they keep these guidelines in place so we dont hurt ourselves, but its a fact that everyone heals differently, and everyone has new tollerances to food out.

im about to have a v8 and do some running around for my business.

everything is subjective!

I would avoid the boxed stuff if possible, but it's not a bad option if you don't know how to mash real potatoes. I prefer mashed red potatoes. Also, yams are good too. To me, they're a bit "spicy" when compared to sweet potatoes. Not spicy as in Thai food spicy, but spicy as in they have spice flavoring-ish.

just get a sweet potato and bake it in the microwave like you would a potato. then put some butter on it and you will have mashed sweet potato!! that is what i do. YUMM YUMM!!

only word of advice is that they do cook faster than a regular potato, so watch them.

Kelly :)

I'm looking forward to mashed butternut squash when I move to stage 3 next week. I get the pre-cut stuff from costco, nuke it for 5 minutes and mash with a fork. Yum-O.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
