To doctor Almanza Patients. Knowing all the risk and the mix reviews why did u still go

Are you happy with your decision? Will you do it again? If you could have changed something, what would it have been? Is there something you wish you were aware of before hand?

I went to Alamanza in May of 2011. I did my research going in and there were no surprises. I would do it again. Some people want to have the surgery in a hospital instead of a clinic and I understand that. I was treated very well and my surgery has been a great success and I have had no complications. There are risks with all surgeons and hospitals, you have to do your research and make a decision based on how you feel. Most of the people that say negative things about a surgeon has no experience with that surgeon. That is why I do not say ANYTHING negative about any surgeon based on something I have read because I do not know how accurate the information is. If you are researching a surgeon, you should talk to the actual people who had the surgery with that surgeon.

I too went to Dr Almanza and I have zero complaints about my surgeon.

In retrospect, what I would change is simply going to a doctor that used a hospital. I didn't want to stay at the house because my husband was with me and there was a high likelihood he would end up on a couch or the floor so we stayed at the hotel. The hotel was great... but... I was originally told that they would come to ME for meds. I found out I had to go back and forth to the clinic 2x/day for them instead. I found that terribly inconvenient and uncomfortable travelling back and forth so often. I also had to base my pain meds on their schedule, not when I needed the pain meds so often times it could be over 12 hours between shots.

I too had my surgery with Alamanza on 9/6/11. Even with all the risks, I knew he was the right one for me. I am so glad I went there. They were extremely nice to me and my guest. I didn't got to the recovery house. I stayed 2 nights in the clinic and then went back to San Diego. I felt great. I felt good enough to leave after day one but that pesky drain tube had to be taken out. lol.

Anyway, I would do it all over again. NO DOUBT.

Had surgery 12/6/2010. My surgery was a complete success, I had NO problems other than pretty bad nausea on and off for a few months. It's just how my body reacted and probably has nothing to do with the facility or doctor.

I did not know about the stories of the increased complication rates and the recovery house robbery had not taken place yet. They WOULD have swayed me away from the place.

The main facility is in a strip mall, it is very small and noisy. It seemed clean to me but other have complained about ants in the operating room, etc. The recovery house is small and somewhat run down. It IS in a gated community in a pretty nice area, they should of taken extra precaution by now and this could of happened anywhere in Tijuana.< /span>

Because of the complaints and robbery I will now NOT advise others to go here. You be the judge, there are other Mexican facilities that have a smaller complication rate and seemingly NO security issues.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
