Pre-op diet question

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if it is ok to throw my Slimfast Optima in the blender with some ice and make it into a smoothie while I'm doing the pre-op diet? I'm thinking the extra bulk might fill me up more and honestly, I hate the aftertaste I get and am hoping the ice would cut it some!

That's exactly what I'm doing. I'm on Optifast and am making smoothie/shakes with it.

Also my nutritionist suggested that since I can still have coffee with skim milk and artificial sweetner that I mix the coffee, skim milk, Equal, ice and either a vanilla or chocolate Optifast - and then blend them.

It's almost like a Starbucks Frappucinno! (almost)

Gotta come up with more exciting and interesting ways to get through the pre-op liquid phase.

(5 more days)

Thanks! I asked my dietician and she said to go ahead and use ice. I have to drink 4 Slimfast Optima a day starting Saturday. They have a capachino flavor that I'm hoping will taste like Starbucks by the time I'm done!

So how are you surviving the pre-op liquid diet? I'm dreading it! How much weight have you lost so far?

It hasn't been so bad...the first few days were the worst. I can do 6 or 7 of the 8oz Optifast drinks. Like I said earlier, when I'm home I blend with Ice and a small amount of skim milk and I get alot more volume.

Also, I've told I can have as much 0-calorie soft drinks as I like and occasional coffee with skim milk so it hasn't been so bad.

I think the best way to do it is to ease into it. Gradually cut out solid foods working up to the full liquid stage. I just phased it in and it didn't seem that bad.

I just have to last 4 more days (Fri-Mon)

(I have to confess - I would love a cheeseburger and fries right now)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
