So far my journey has been good. My flight went smoothly and the layover didnt really seem long. I flew from Va to BWI airport...and then switched flights to San Diego. I got in a tad bit earlier than expected. I called my good friend to let her know when I had landed at each destination. I prayed with her before leaving to have a safe journey and uneventful surgery. After landing in Cali I texted Trish and Ricardo the driver. He called me and we were able to set a pick up location. Ricardo was very nice and he placed my bag in the honda for me. I wasnt really worried about what car it was because it was a short drive and as long as we got there safely that is all that mattered. Since we were going into Mexico late at night it was a breeze! I really didnt understand how come they make it seem so hard to do! I didnt have to take anything out going into the Mexican border. It honestly reminded me of the bridge toll road in New Jersey and New York lol. I spoke to my friend until we got into Mexico and cut my phone off. The charges are ridiculous....99 cents per min or 50 cents to text....0.05 cents to receive texts. Any way I was beat by this time because back at home the time was after midnight and my body was not adjusted to the new time zone. As we pulled up to FLorence/Oasis hospital I was not sure what to expect. To my surprise it was a beautiful building on the outside and it had a pretty garden courtyard in the front. I will take pics of the outside and lobby prior to leaving. Anyway, Trish was there to greet me and helped me fill out the paper work I needed to sign. I think the only thing I remembered saying to myself was please dont let me need blood. See, I am a clinical laboratory scientist and I was worried about how they screened their blood donors. So any way, back to the room we go...My room was a basic but clean and decent sized room. The nurse was making up the full bed and placing the finishing touches on my bed. I forgot my nurse's name but I will get it when she comes back tonight...she was very sweet and she spoke english very well. Her helper Edna only spoke little english but she only assisted and took vital signs. I was able to chat with her in spanish a little. I had to brush up though lol. I decided not to shower since it was so late and I was going to have to wake up at 6am to shower anyway. I turned the tv on and was surprised to know that they did have english stations. I settled on watching E since they had say yes to the dress on. Off to sleep I went. I may have to ask Trish to get a mattress topper for after surgery on a side note...Next morning comes and the nurse comes in and wakes me up. She said we were late getting started so she gave me the gown and off I went to shower and get ready. I actually like these gowns better than U.S. gowns because its out on the sides and they have velcro down both sides of the gown. Back to the story...the nurse got my iv started without a hitch. The only thing I saw they do that we dont do as lab techs is open the tube and get the blood from the iv canula. It was fine, they got all tubes except one which meant a needle stick for that last red top tube. Just as I was writing this guess who knocks and comes in??? Dr. Kelly! We had an indepth conversation about the surgery, post op, questions about the incisions which he gladly showed me on my stomach where they would be. He was so nice and caring and he just put my mind at ease. We even spoke about the differences in Doctors price wise. He is an awesome person! I am in good hands...Just came back from my visit with x-ray. It was quick and I got the thumbs up. I think the ekg and speaking with the cardiologist is next!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
