I am so frustrated right now! I spoke with someone at my insurance company yesterday and she told me I was DENIED. WHAT??? I did everything EXACTLY like I was supposed to! The reason given was that I "did not complete the required 6 month supervised diet with my physician". But I did!!! I have ben very meticulous in meeting their requirements, and my surgeons office has documentation of all 6 months of visits. Obviously there was a mistake made somewhere. She is turning it over to her supervisor to hopefully get it all straightened out. Of course, it is a holiday weekend so I have to wait until Tuesday! I think it will eventually get approved, because I have most definitely met all of the requirements, its just so frustrating!

Has anyone else been denied initally, but then got approved on appeal or re-review????

Now I AM scared! First time i was denied even though the rep told me that everything looked great except the 6 month diet. I just turned in my notes this week and now I am waiting to hear. The doctors office called to let me the the insurance was asking for additional info such a a couple of PCP visits earlier in 2010 to see what I weighed then, I did not do very well with the 6 month diet. I yo-yoed my way back and forth through 10 pounds. But if I could do this on my own without this "tool", then why would I need the surgery in the first place? I am so afraid they are going to deny me again.

Hey Kristina,

My insurance told me the same thing and come to find out that the last six pages of the packet sent to insurance from Surgeons office did not come through....of course that was the six pages documenting my six month Dr. supervised visits....Make sure of the number sent from surgeons office and then call the insurance back and make sure they have all your pages....my packet was 26 pages long all together....dont' worry....it's frustrating but you will get past it.....once they realized the pages were missing, I was approved in two days! Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
