8 days out, hungry and bored

Recommended Posts

So I've been sleeved since last Saturday and while I was in Mexico I moved immediately from clears to yogurt drinkables and custard cups. A lot of you indicated this might not have been the best idea (though my surgeon's paperwork could be interpreted to allow that), I decided to scale back to liquids for the second week to keep my sleeve safe. Only problem is I don't feel any restriction with liquids now (even jello). They go right through me and I still end up a little hungry afterward. Soup gives me a little satisfaction, but there's not a huge selection of soup without chunks for me to choose from. At this point, I'm longing for tuna salad or egg salad, for real foods that aren't just Desserts in some form.

I'm also really desperate to get off liquids because I have very few choices that are low carb, besides my shakes, and those don't fully satisfy me. Does anyone have any suggestions? Is it normal to just have liquids go right through you?

Granted, the hunger isn't as intense as it would have been before the surgery, so that's a plus. But one of the big issues I'm having is finding "full liquids" that are low in carbs. I really, really don't want to lean too heavily on Protein Shakes as I'm really sick of drinking them. But I'm starting to get the impression I simply can't avoid them.

I was aloud any liquid for the first two weeks as long as there were no bits so I simply strained any Soup that did have bits. This made it far more interesting!

I also got sick of the sweet stuff. We have cheese here called baby bell and it dissolves in your mouth so this became my favourite snack. Lol

Good luck and keep at it I'm now 6 weeks out and I can eat anything just in tiny amounts and the time had flown by, it will for you too!

Try some Tomato Soup with melted cheese, Laughing Cow cheese, and probably a very scrambled egg will help tremendously. I found salmon bisque from a seafood shop to be incredibly filling---rich but filling! I could eat very early on---about 5-6 days and really got sick of the Protein shakes early on! sounds as if you're doing well! I'm about 11 weeks out now and have NO problems except I do fill up quickly!

Refried Beans with a little Water added and a sprinkle of melted cheese on the top sticks to your ribs and goes down easy. Egg drop Soup from local Chinese takeout saved my life :)......be careful with the mayo in the tuna, egg salad...........goes right on through and not in a good way :) so try stuff out at home first! I know what you mean about the sweet stuff...I got sick of it too. Lived on cottage cheese for weeks!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
