How soon did you start w/ soft foods?

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Question? I was sleeved almost 2 weeks ago. When did you all start the soft foods, ie: cottage cheese, eggs, etc? I'm so sick of these sugary tasting Protein beverages, My Dr. says 4 weeks, but I notice some of you start b4 that. Did you get your dr's permission? Thanks to all of you who respond!

i will be a month out on monday and my nut will call me then to advance me to soft foods.

i have been eating cottage cheese for about a week and did eat some salmon on thursday to try it. i have done well with the salmon so have eaten it for all meals since thursday at lunch! cottage cheese was rough at first, but ok now.

i also got some wendy's chili tonight and it was sooooooo good! still can only do about 1/4 c at a time, that container will last me a week!! LOL :)

i know what you mean about the sugary foods! i was so sick of the full liquids! i am on pureed now and feel so hungry because everything is liquid still. i have been on this liquid thing for a month! i know i will feel so much more satifaction when i can have an egg or some tuna that is not pureed! i already feel that just eating the small amount of salmon i ate.

good luck to you!

kelly

Hi - congratulations on your upcoming surgery! Every surgeon is different on when you can start on soft foods. I would stick with what your surgeon says because each surgeon stiches the pouch differently, so you could potentially cause a leak. Yikes, you do not want that. Ask your sugeon for a diet plan, hopefully they have a guide for you. If not, you can goodle VSG post op diet, many good ones out there. If you strike out, you can send me your email address and I can send you what I have gathered over the last several months.

Good luck! I love my sleeve.

I had to wait 3 weeks Post-Op before my mushie/puree stage, but I have to wait 7 weeks Post-Op before soft solid foods. It is horrible, I am at 4 weeks Post-Op and I am so bored with shakes, and blended foods. But it will pass, if you need some motivation read about what takes place if you bust your stitches, they will open your chest, you will be out of work for 7 weeks, and if you get Sepsis you could die. That keeps me on my plan and dreaming of solids, but eating baby food, LOL. Good Luck.

I could start pureed foods on the third day but wasn't ready. I am 5 days out today and had a few tablespoons of pureed cream of potato Soup and it was wonderful! :) I have to be on pureeds for 6 weeks.

I did start mushy in the 2nd week. You can try a small bite of cottage cheese, chew it until it is almost liquid and see how it goes down. At first, you can only get a bite or maybe 2 down. I also like ricotta cheese in that time. It's a little creamier and you can stir different things into it for flavor.

My surgeon in MX wanted me on liquids for 3 weeks, but my doctor here at home adivsed me to move on to mushies sooner. Depends on the doc :-)

I was sleeved on 5/24 and had my 2-week post-op visit today. The nutritionist gave me the go-ahead to start pureed foods. Sorry to hear you need to wait another 2 weeks for mushies.

Have you tried the nectar drinks? I was getting sick of the chocolate and vanilla stuff, but the nectar stuff gives you something different. I have their iced tea and pink grapefruit and they are pretty good. A nice change from the chocolate/vanilla shake options.

Good luck!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
