denied.......feel like I got gut punched

Recommended Posts

someone posted an appeal letter on here before...I think I saved it on my home computer in case I needed it. Or try searching appeal and see what comes up. I believe it was in the Insurance forum. Good luck!

A lot of insurance companies automatically deny and hope that you will back off. DON'T. I have had to write many letters when being denied for surgery (not this, because it is excluded) but, for instance, my son had heart surgery and had an extra tooth in the roof of his mouth and they didn't want to pay for him to be under general anesthesia, they wanted him tied to a papoose board while they pulled a tooth, Um, no, he was not even three years old. I wrote a pretty detailed letter, you have to put in 'catch phrases' that they are looking for, 'history of arthritis with a need for prescribed Indocin and daily over the counter nsaids (hey, they don't know you don't take these, as they are not prescribed), You shouldn't have to have both stomach problems and a need for these meds, so, you should be alright with just having that. It doesn't have to be a 'book' my letters are usually about one page long, just state that you realize that arthritis normally worsens with age, and that since you already take XYZ milligrams of blah blah, you do not want to find yourself in a position of needing increased dosages as you age and finding that you cannot alleviate your pain due to not having the recommended surgery for your pre-existing arthritis, blah blah. I've usually gotten an approval within a week once I've submitted letters. LIke I said, they are counting on people giving up, DON'T!!!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
