"Sleeved" 19th May 2011

Recommended Posts

Hello, I'm new to your site but I just wanted to say that reading all your stories before I was sleeved was very encouraging. I was sleeved on the 19th May and had a very uneventful time and so far my recovery has been fantastic. I'm now only three days into the two weeks of fluids only and have to use the kitchen timer to remind myself to drink whatever concoction is next due but its fine and I'm not hungry or thirsty.

Friends are visiting and ringing expecting me to be very weak, pale and in pain and are astonished to see me looking well, mobile and painfree- I know that so far I have been very lucky.

I look forward to being part of your group. Ellen Ann

Welcome to the "other side" Ellen Ann!

I too had an easy time with my surgery and recovery. Other than some anemia and gas pains, I was good!! I went back to work in a week and feel great at 2 weeks out!!

Good luck to you in your journey and keep us posted on your progress!!

Kelly :)

Hi Ellen Ann, welcome and congrats on being sleeved!! I was sleeved on 5/16 and have been having an easy recovery as well. I feel so blessed and am so thankful. I'm so happy I was finally able to get this done. Glad you're doing so well and happy we have this supportive forum.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
