Wow I am so floored by the immaturity of people. We are all human and I know I can say people have gauked at me and even kids have made fat comments in front of their parents and the parents do nothing until I speak up and tell them to learn to teach their kids respect. We were not born to be or look the same. I haven't flown in a plain in years and man if I did and was treated or saw someone being treated that way I would step up and say something too. It's just like my Facebook. I read stupid comments all the time about how skinny people don't like it if heavier people wear skinny jeans and stuff like that. You know what I tell them? I tell them if they make it in our size than we can wear them baby, and if they don't like my comment then they can officially delete me as a friend because I don't want friends like that anyways. My real friends know not to even get me started on weight issues because most people who have never in their life had a weight problem have no idea what it is to go through your whole life being overweight, and besides that the last time I checked we all have something not perfect about us. Like some of us are overweight, some of us have acne, some of us are too thin, I could go on and on. There is not one perfect person in this world that I know of. Thanks for sharing that and its too bad we have to be humiliated to make a point.

Man, I was terrified for years that this would happen to me. I was 375 lbs with a 52" waist and could barely cram my enormous a$$ into one of those seats, surprisingly I could get the belt buckled - just.

One guy from our company was forced to buy 2 seats and guess what? He DIDN'T get them in the end, they charged him for them and was given only ONE seat, they "resold" the other one or simply didn't have it to offer to begin with. He was furious. They would not give in and give him both seats and would not later give him a refund of the extra seat. I can sort of see their point, the charge was for the MASS which was basically as much as TWO adult men but dang it, he bought 'em both and should of gotten 'em both.

Wow, I really like how eloquently she put it: equal rights for equal services. It's so true that I have curtailed my flying for fear that this would happen to me, and I do think it's unfair. She had great suggestions, and I hope it opens up a dialog.

I can understand if their policy is that a person of a certain size/weight or whatever must buy two seats but then they better get both of those seats!! What is really messed up in this situation is that they asked her in front of everyone how much she weighed and/or what her dress size was! WTF? There is NO NEED for anyone to know that answer. I really like how she handled herself!!!! I'm trying to read her blog now but stupid work computer is being silly! LOL

OMG I just read her blog about it and I am speechless!! That is just INSANE!

I think it is unfortunate that these situations seem to pop up all the time, but most people accept it as "normal" and don't speak up or do anything about it. Most people truly believe that "fat" people and lazy and slobbish and that is the furthest thing from the truth. People who are obese are discriminated against. Obesity is only recently being recognized as a disease, as a problem. Most people are stuck in the mindset that obese people chose to be like that therefore they can live with the consequences, and that is how these type of situations occur. Until the mindset changes the problem still exists, and until that point people need to stick up for themselves and for other people. I think she handled the situation wonderfully.

I also think that airlines are forgetting that the people who are paying for these flights are customers. Whatever happened to "the customer comes first". The only airline that I will fly right now is JetBlue. I flew with them multiple times in the last few years, including a couple of standby flights and it really is so much nicer. I used to fly southwest between Philly and Jax on a semi-regular basis, but I noticed that their standards have gone way done.

I loved this post. Glad I found it. So happy that she was able to stand up and say something. I flew to San Diego before my surgery and never thought I was too big to fly, but it was a tight tight squeeze. I knew I was big at 273lbs., but I never thought that the seatbelt on the plane would not fit me as I never really thought I was as big as I was. I see all kinds of people my size how do they fly. The seatbelt was very tight and I barely got it to click, but I did manage it. I could not imagine having to ask the flight attendent for an seat belt extender. I hate to be so full of it, but I would have cried out in pain and distress if it were true. I agree with her and stress the issue of equal rights with a service that is willing to provide not deny. Give us some room please!!

Yup, I remember one time this kid standing infront of his mother said to me "Your Fat" . . . like you the mom was standing there looking and I said to the kid, "yeah I am, but at least I'm not as ugly as you and your mom" and walked away laughing. . . that must of gotten all over her. . . I loved it. . . some skinny people are really obnoxious and unintelligent! I've lost 150 lbs and am very happy with that . . but due to my bone structure and height I still look like a giant against most people (i live in San Antonio, enough said :)

but I don't care at this point, at 6'0 tall with a very large frame wearing size 16/18 makes me happy and i don't give a flip what anyone else thinks about that ESPECIALLY a skinny person. . . I used to have to ask to have an extension for my seatbelt in the plane, but have never been told anything else ever. . . .now i can fit very comfortably and have 8 inches left over from the seatbelt after fastening it (yes I've actually measured it :0 ) . . . anyhow we are all here for a reason, reasons we'll never know, but maybe it is to make a point that fat people are people too. . . .

Back in the 1980's I worked with a guy that probably weighed ~ 400 pounds. He had to fly frequently and his normal practice was to either upgrade to first class, or buy a second coach seat, so he could comfortably fit in coach. Even though he worked for a living - he was actually independently wealthy - and worked for the joy of what he did. The money wasn't a problem for him - he just wanted to be comfortable.

If I knew an airlines policy was to charge fat people for two seats - I would book two seats next to each other when I was making the reservation. By god, if they charge me for two, I'm going to get two! Then you could be comfortable flying. As crammed together as the seats in coach are these days - it would be heavenly. Even when I hit goal - I wish I had the money to routinely book two seats. It would keep the person next to you from boring you to death with talking, or spreading germs on you.

I used to have to fly a lot. All airlines seat belts are not the same length. Some are as much as 4-6" shorter than others. At my heaviest, I was right on the borderline of needing the seatbelt extender. Some flights I had to have one, some not. And I overcame the discomfort of asking. Thankfully those days (both traveling frequently and needing the extender) are behind me.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
