Band friendly recipes

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know of a cookbook that only has band friendly foods? If not, will somebody please write one?!?!? :)

I know how to cook. I know how to eat. But I have a hard time finding recipes that are easy for me to eat with the band. It takes me so long to look through my cookbooks just to find a recipe I can actually EAT!! I end up eating the same things over & over again.

The food needs to be high in Protein, have lots of veggies, no mushy stuff that goes right through. No high calorie stuff. No high fat stuff. No carbonation.

Does anyone else go through my delimma at dinner time?! :help:

Book Description

A Whole New and Completely Delicious Way to Eat after Weight Loss Surgery After her weight loss surgery in 2003, Patt Levine knew she would have to stick to a very restrictive diet, but there had to be something better than the "totally tasteless mush" her post-op food guidelines recommended. Levine put her cooking skills to work and now, in Eating Well after Weight Loss Surgery, she and collaborator Michele Bontempo-Saray offer over 140 original, low-fat, high-protein recipes that taste just as delicious pureed and chopped as they do served whole, so you can enjoy flavorful, satisfying meals through every stage of your post-op eating program and cook for your family and friends—all at the same time. These mouth-watering dishes, which cover everything from Breakfast to dessert, include:

Crustless Spinach and cheese Quiche * BBQ-Baked chicken * Asian Turkey Dumplings * Cider-Glazed Pork Chops * London Broil with Horseradish Cream Moussaka * Salmon with Creamy Lime-Dill Sauce * Scallops Provencale * Orange-Ginger Tofu * Vegetable Frittata * Southwestern Tomato Soup * No-Noodle Zucchini Lasagna * Basic Cheesecake * Apricot and strawberry smoothie

Where do we find this book? Is it available from mainstream bookstore, can we find a copy down here in new zealand/australia? Any help would be appreciated as this is also my hardest problem at the moment!

Cheers!:D

I did a web search and found it located at Amazon, Overstock and Shop.com. You might be able to call you local bookstores and see if they have it or if they can get it in for you.

Cost is under $20 it looks (that's not including s/h).

If you go to Amazon.com and click on the book you will find some recipes you can try --there are a total of 5 that you can look at and try.

I will go and have a look now, although it is usually very expensive to order the same books down here, they usually have a huge mark-up!:D

Here's a recipe I found in Yahoo BandsterRecipes group posted by Lisa Kaiser:

White Chili

PAM (original recipe uses 1 T olive oil)

4 skinless, boneless chicken breast halves - cubed

1 onion (chopped)

1 (4 oz) can diced green chiles

1 t garlic powder

1 t ground cumin

1/2 t dried oregano

1/2 t dried cilantro

1/8 t cayenne pepper

1 (15 oz) can cannellini Beans - drained & rinsed

2 green onions, chopped

2 ounces fat free shredded cheese (Monterey Jack or Cheddar)

Spray PAM in the bottom of a sauce pan. Cook onion until

transparent. Add chicken and cook until opague and juices no longer

are pink. Add remaining items...cover and cook on low heat for about

an hour (it's ok to cook longer). When done serve in bowls and top

with cheese and chopped green oions.

Diane, what I would suggest is using a crockpot to cook. This will make anything you eat very soft / band friendly. You can cook just about anything you like.

Diane,

I'm going to piggyback on NJChick's great suggestion. If you're short on time and need it faster, you may want to consider investing in a pressure cooker.

Before & After - Living & Eating Well After Weight Loss Surgery by Susan Maria Leach

With 100 High Protein, Low Carb recipes for a Healthier, Happier and Slimmer You. (HarperCollins 2004, hardcover)

You can get it at less than half price at Amazon.com or sometimes less than that at eBay. The recipes are more 'everyday' regular food than those in the book you mentioned. There is also a lot of great advice for success after wls, too.

This is one of my favorite books. I have loved everything I've prepared from this book! I'm making the Carnitas of Pork this week (only I am adding the peels of three oranges for a more authentic flavor) and can't wait! The book is geared toward rny pts. but I found lots of good info and recipes! Her website is awesome too!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
