Hello...My name is Cheryl

The gas pain is the worst part. Make sure you move as much as possible. Go for lots of walks, windmill your arms, get the nurses to clap you on the back.... I found the GASX strips were a waste of money but YMMV

After the gas passed the pain was localized to the drain site. Once the drain was out, it was like night and day. Such a relief. If you try to drink too much or too fast, there's pain kind of like when you get food stuck.

If you choose to stay in the hotel instead of recovery house, bring some liquid pain meds. You will want them.

Anything else feel free to ask or follow me on my blog. :)

Good luck!

Hi ToDream, thanks for the advice, the pain has been what I was most worried about! I have alot of questions, so I'm sure to adventually ask plenty. I'm looking forward to checking out your blog, its sure to have alot of great information.

hi cheryl... i feel your pain about the date being far away lol. i'm sched for june 7 and made that decision at the end of march. but the time will get here soon. i only told the people in my office that i'm going to Mexico, i'll tell more people after the surgery. like you, i've found out not everyone in your life will be supportive of this decision. but i'm doing it for me.

Hi mina,

Thanks for replyingto my post! You guys have made me fee lso much better about my decision. So who's your doctor? When do you have to start your pre op diet? I have to be on mine at least a month. What about you? Good luck with your surgery and keep me posted. One month to go you must be getting excited!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
