Day 3 on my 2 week Pre Op Diet....

Recommended Posts

Today was the hardest for me, I did everything to the T- I drank my shakes for Breakfast and for lunch and had my snack bars inbetween, and drank a good amount of Water and I was just plain HUNGRY - nothing I did could curb my hunger today, and the longer the day went on the hungrier I got and the crabbier I got... I didnt cheat, I was good, but Man... this is hard! :(

Anyone else go through this, does it get better?

Thanks

Michelle

It DOES get better. I started feeling better after the third day. The first couple days I had a horrible headache and my brain felt like it was in a fog. All I wanted to do when I came home from work was lay around like a zombie. I will warn you that if you work during the week, the weekends are hard. I think it's because I sleep different times and my schedule is all off from what I do Monday-Friday. So my suggestion would be to stay on as much of a schedule over the weekend as you can.

As for the hunger, I am on Day 10 and I'm STILL hungry. But the difference now is that the feeling doesn't consume me. I eat a little pack of sugar free Jello or a sf popsicle and it makes me feel better. And the Protein shakes are satisfying me more.

Please do give up. It will be over soon and then the best part begins!!!

Oh good, there is a light at the end of this tunnel, I am so glad to hear it. Today was rough, but I will NOT give up, I have come to far to stop! I keep telling myself, I only have a week and a half and then I will be in surgery.

I did eat my one meal this evening and felt more satisfied then I have the other two nights, so thats a good thing!

Congrats on day 10! I cant wait till I am there :)

Thanks for your reply!

I would say the worst is behind you! For my day 1 was killer, bad headache, tired, grumpy, miserable! By day 3 I was starting to hit my stride , I kinda got mad at the liquid and developed a " you can't beat me!" attitude. So hopefully you will adjust too. As for hunger, if I really got all the grams of Protein they wanted, which was high, 80-90 I wasn't truly hungry( head hunger is a whole different beast)

I was going to say that my day three had been fine but then tonight I came home to the house full of cooking smells of my son's and was suddenly sooooo hungry! Nothing I can have appealed to me as I get only liquids, no food at all. I had a cup of chicken broth but couldn't finish it and know I should have a prtein shake but am not wanting that overly sweet taste.

Good luck and know it has a wonderful light at the end of this tunnel- the sleeve! That is what I am trying to do- keep my eyes on the prize.

I just looked at my post again and realize that I said, "Please do give up." I DIDN'T MEAN THAT!!!! I meant, "Please DON'T give up." I hope everybody knows that's what I meant.

I am on day 1 of my 3 week liquid diet. I'm sooo grumpy and hungry right now, and I have the mother of all headaches. I'm glad that the feeling is normal and that others are experiencing the same thing. I keep reminding myself that this is a means to an end.

Today is day 4 and it was MUCH better, I didnt feel grumpy, I wasnt starving all day ( I am now, cause its that time that I can have my 1 meal! ) so I think I will live and make it through this.

Keep your chin up all, it will get better ~ we just gotta keep looking at the BIG picture :P

Hi :) Im not being sleeved till june 13th, so I have a way to go yet, but....my surgeon requires no pre-op diet, and with my 16 abdominal surgeries I've had in the past, some laporoscopic/some open, I have always had to do some type of pre-op to shrink the liver. Im curious to know....what u r eating for the pre-op, if u dont mind me asking? I would really like to do some sort of pre-op diet on my own. I have the Isopure Protein shakes, but I dont know how many to have a day, and...I dont know what else to eat :( I can't understand how there is no pre-op for me, so I def want to try something on my own. Thanks, and keep us posted......Good luck on ur surgery....ur almost there :D

In my case, day 1and 2 were easy but by day three I was feeling weak, hungry, grumpy, tired and I had a terrible headache every single day thereafter. I completed day 1-6 without cheating but on day 7 which was easter Sunday, I threw out my diet and ate some food. My headache completely went away. On Monday I called my nutritionist and told her about my headaches and how I cheated. She recommended I do the modified diet instead, which is having 3 Protein Shakes a day, a small meal and a snack. I started this diet on Monday and I haven't had a headache since, and haven't felt the urge to cheat. I found out that wendy's chili salad is a great source of Protein and it pretty munch contains everything you need in a small meal. I've been having that for lunch ever since and it's so delicious! (I also try to eat about 2 ounces of grilled chicken with my meal to add more protein) and as my snack I usually have an apple. I ordered my Meal Replacement protein shakes from bariatric advantange. I find that the chocolate is the best flavor and each shake has 27 g of protein. Their Protein Bars are great (by the way if you do the modified diet you have to toss out the Protein Bar from your original liquid diet). I have two days left and then I will be on the other side! I wish everyone else luck! :)

OK, so I started by pre-op diet on the 17th because originally I was going to have my procedure done in the states, but changed my mind due to insurance not paying. So anyways it took a few days and then I didn't feel hungry at all and just ate my stuff because I had to for fuel to the body. I had originally lost 5 lbs in 5 days. Then came Easter and I drank a few white russian daiquiris and ate steak, etc. That threw me back and it is taking me a few extra days to get back on track. I gained a lb. back, but since I have been eating on-plan this entire week I have lost that lb plus 2 more so I'm down to 7 gone. I have to say that I feel so much better and have a lot more energy than before.....

I have a slimfast 180 calorie shake for Breakfast, a slimfast 100 calorie snack back a couple hours later, then I have another shake for lunch, then another snack a couple of hours later then for dinner I can have 5 ounces of Protein and 2 cups of veggies. Thats it! - Each day is different on being able to handle it, first three days were rough, the 4th was better, then today came and I had to work late, and missed my normal 1 meal time, and it really kicked my butt, I was shakey, angry, emotional - not a very happy camper.

You really make me want to try the pre-op diet for real so when I get to it I don't cheat. Congrats on your willpower! I don't know if I could have done it.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
