SHOULD I PRE-OP B4 MY ACTUAL PRE-OP TIME?

Recommended Posts

HI :D ,

IM REALLY SOOO HAPPY I FOUND THIS SITE. IM FINDING MORE AND MORE USEFUL TOOLS HERE. MY SURGERY IS NOT TILL JUNE 13TH, BUT IM TRYING SOOOO HARD TO DO LIKE A PRE-OP DIET TYPE THING B4 HAND, BUT IM EATING MORE THAN EVER!!! I THINK I MIGHT HAVE EVEN GAINED A FEW POUNDS (NOT GOOD I KNOW) :( IM THINKING TO EAT AS I WOULD NORMALLY, AND WORRY ABOUT THE PRE-OP WHEN IM SUPPOSED TO, RIGHT B4 SURGERY. ANY SUGGESTIONS/ADVICE ON THAT? I KNOW IT SOUNDS STUPID, BUT REALITY IS SETTING IN, AND ALTHOUGH I STILL HAVE LIKE 6 WEEKS, I WOULD LIKE TO BE DOWN AT LEAST 20 LBS.

I think doing the pre-op diet before hand is a FANTASTIC idea. This gives you an idea of what life after the surgery will be like. I started my pre-op diet in October of last year and have lost almost 60lbs. YAY ME!!

My surgeon is THRILLED beyond belief!! He also is not making me do the liquid diet. Says my liver should be small enough. He only asked that I lose 20lbs and I blew that out of the Water.< /p>

It will only help you the more you can lose before you have the surgery. I will have a very short goal after being sleeved. I encourge everyone that has not started to start now!!

Good luck to you!

Kelly :D

I am on the pre-op diet for almost 2 weeks now and am down 16 lbs! I think its a great idea to start it before hand. What I would suggest is that you substitued a meal a day with a Protein Shake to get into the groove so this way by the time you have to do the pre op diet, its a breeze. Eventually, I've noticed that the drinks start to tast better with time, because thats what you are becoming used to. I use the Atkins low carb, low sugar. Has 15 grams of Protein. Not too bad. Good luck on your journey!

Everyone is different on this, but I too wanted to have as much of a headstart on my losing as possible. Any weight you lose pre-op is just that much less you have to lose post-op.

I feel the same way Kelly! I have been substituting 1-2 meals per day with protei shakes. I have lost about 10 pounds this month.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
